Mike Cheadle and Kassi Akers received the first Golden Gear of Excellence Awards! This award was created in 2024 to recognize two non-tenure track members in the department, one non-tenure track instructor and one administrative staff member.

ME awards $1 million in scholarships

As of fall 2024 we have a new record in the mechanical engineering and engineering mechanics programs: nearly 300 undergraduate students officially received over $1 million in scholarship support from ME and the College of Engineering! This is a $160,000 increase over last year’s total and is the most our department has given out in the history of our program.

Mechanical Engineering was the first significant building erected after the University decided to move engineering from Bascom Hill to the Camp Randall site. It was built in 1929.
