There is one piece of lifting equipment that has no better substitute – wire rope sling. Famous for their strength and flexibility, wire rope slings are widely used for lifting and hoisting in cranes and elevators. There amazing pieces of equipment has been around for decades and technology progress has not been able to find better substitute for the job they do. Wire ropes are suitable for any industry and lifting needs, therefore if you are manufacturing materials you will definitely need to own one or two of them. Despite its simple design, you should not be careless and laid back while using it for lifting. Accidents happen no matter how much you paid for equipment. Therefore, you must know how to differ damaged rope slings from good ones and what is an ultimate way to use them.

TTC lifting is here to teach you how to tell if the wire rope sling is in a good condition and ready to be used.

· Visual inspection – The first step of checking wire quality is visual inspection of the entire sling. Before checking, make sure that wire is free of dirt and grime so that not a single dot stays without examination. When do you know that wire is not in good condition? If you notice any broken parts, deformed end attachments, worn out surface, severe corrosion and basically any visible damage that causes doubt, you have to reconsider removing that wire rope sling from use.

· Tag requirements – Good wire rope sling should have a tag, which shows all the following – name and trademark of the company thamanufactured it, diameter, size and capacity, number of legs (if it has ore than one of them). If even one of these is not listed on tag, you should not use that piece of equipment.

· Types of damages – To detect a bad wire rope sling, you and your team need to know the most common types of damages. If you are using brand new wires, corrosion is least likely to be an issue as it requires quite some time to develop. Even though corrosion is unavoidable, you can delay it by storing your ropes in some dry, non-humid places when they are not in use. More common damage types include broken, kinked popped and worn out wires. If the sling has been used outdoors a lot, make sure to check for bird caging. It looks as if parts of the rope were separated by force and makes the wire useless.

Follow this guideline for detecting damaged wire rope slings and make lifting duty safer for your personal. If you have any questions about wire rope sling safety or are looking for a place to buy quality lifting equipment just contact TTC Lifting. We will be more than happy to answer each of your questions and make sure that you find the perfect wire rope for your lifting.

Source :- Click Here
