Similarly, I appreciated the suggestion to prompt students to connect back to previous writing experiences. One way is allowing them to share their experiences if they wish. Many of our students will integrate their military affiliation into essays--like the literacy narrative. Allow them to share when they want and it's nice to ask them a question or simply comment on their thoughts.
