More Robust Reflections

I really appreciated the reminder to make explicit why and how what students are learning will be useful to then in the future.
Similarly, I appreciated the suggestion to prompt students to connect back to previous writing experiences. When designing reflection assignments we need to prompt students to make connections with all three times/spaces: previous writing, current/in-class writing, and future/imagined writing.

I stopped doing the "in-class freewrites" a long time ago. I didn't like the idea of students "wasting" time to write something that wasn't connected to anything else. I wonder if we might design a series of quick write prompts that then help students connect with one another in a variety of ways?

In team writing some students have opted to lead their teams because it comes natural for them. So this has helped them feel valued.

For me I have shared my educational experiences with military affiliated students. One way is allowing them to share their experiences if they wish. Many of our students will integrate their military affiliation into essays--like the literacy narrative. Allow them to share when they want and it's nice to ask them a question or simply comment on their thoughts. I am sure that is appreciated.

I think that this particular one-giving students space to bring in their experiences to discussions and projects-is similar to UDL principles: it serves everyone. I think that one of the things that needs to happen is that the space feels safe.
