GOOD POINTS:
1. Making the promise of "no matter who you are, who your parents are, how much money you have, we will make sure you will be well-educated."
2. Ensuring the respect of society for teachers - and teachers ensuring that respect is well-deserved.

That's enough. What more matters?

REALIZATIONS:
It took Finland close to 30 years to overhaul their teacher workforce. That implies a degree of certainty by their political system that such is the proper course of action. It seems no politico or party attempted to tamper with the overhaul just to score epal points. So, for us to fix our educational system? We have to sell the politicians a media package of "epal today kahit na next decade pa results".

QUESTION:
Scandinavian culture's insistence on equality stems from their harsh winters. During the deep of winter, the whole tribe - including their animals for the body heat - holed up in a single great hall. The tribal chief did not have a mansion separate from the di-naligo-masa. It was the only way to survive an environment of negative 20 below for months. Would the Finns have developed such notions of equality in the tropical climate of the PH?

Ed Sanchez
