As I passed the art galleries I did not notice much of the art because none usually stood out to me. But, the ones with body parts caught my attention, especially the art pieces that had to do with hands. Something inside me felt like hands were had a way of expressing emotion through the placement of the fingers and wrist angles. I started out my art piece out with sketching shadows of my hands in different positions, then overlapped some over the other. We used an exercise in which we had to look at the subject we were drawing and kept our eyes up avoiding looking down at our paper to really get in the tiny details. I had some difficult placing the eyes, the mouth and the nose but after a few failed attempts I was able to successfully work things out. I planned on using the technique of shading in the shadows with oil pastel and paint the whole thing with ink to have a an absence of ink where the oil pastel. I drew in bubbles of where the shading were and filled them in with different colors. I made sure to highlight the areas where the light hit my face or hair. I used the color blue for my hair because I enjoyed the contrast between the the light blue and the navy blue because I can see the at it stands out in the overall the view of the art piece. I chose purple, because I wanted to go for a fading purple into a hot pink to show the shadowing of where the light hits my face. Additionally, I used gray for my skin tone to let the other colors pop out a little more. I did not like where the art piece was going so I abandoned that project and started fresh. I then used used the back of the project to have a color scheme, going from light to dark in comparison to the beginning of life to the end of life. At the dark side of the rainbow, I painted a picture of death and a child on death's doorstep. I tried my best avoiding to look at my hand for what I "thought" it looked like and tried to study my hand's details, like the creases, my fingernails, and the proportionality. I then implanted a rose inside palm of the hand. The blooming rose had an eyeball which looked eerie. It was not exactly what I was going for, but I enjoyed the outcome because it was something I had not expected. I then continued the rose's vines wrapping themselves around the hand. The vines were suppose to puncture the hand letting the blood seep out. But, the blood was not detailed enough to correctly identify it. It kind of looked like ketchup to me. I missed a lot of details in this art piece and can reflect now on what I could improve on. BUT the catch was we had to draw it UPSIDE DOWN. At first, I thought this exercise was going to end up terrible. But, it ended up going very well! The objective was to use the right side of our brain so we drew what we saw. Therefore, our brains not being able to pick up an actual image forced us to draw every little detail and shade our drawings. This exercise helped me open up my mind to a different  perspective on sketching. After looking at my drawings, I was more conscious of the little details and the shading that went into the sketch. The more I was able to incorporate those small details into my art pieces, I became more aware of the where the light was hitting the the body of my painting and the proportionality of the art I was painting. For instance, in my portrait project, I was having a little trouble balancing out the proportionality of my face along with the spacing between the eyes. I also defined the lines of my face a little too much and they ended up looking like wrinkles instead of creasing and shadowing of my face.
