The group of people was so big that they couldn't be all from Salva's village. When they were down the path someone said that everyone should divide into groups by villages. He went to the group with his village and didn't see his family. So they went to sleep while the older men took shifts to look over the villages people. The next morning, they continued walking down the path to an unknown location. They see a group of (i guess) men walking with (probably) AK-47's and they surrounded Salva and the rest of the villages (I am actually not sure if the different villages went their own ways. So we are going to assume that all the villages went with the ~rebels~) So this group called the ~rebels~ (that are the ones fighting the northern government of Sudan). Surrounded the groups of villages and led them to the village/camp that the ~rebels~ were staying at. They divided the villages into men and to women and children. Salva wants to join the men even though he is not old enough (lol he thinks he is important). The guard told him he is not important and sent him on his way to the women and children section. The men have to do a bunch of stuff while the ladies and germ bags do absolutely nothing. It took Salva a while to fall asleep because of his over-thinking (that I can relate to). When Salva is conscious he can feel that something is wrong. When he opens his eyes, he sees no one. Nothing. He looked outside and saw a person. A woman was sitting in the sun with a ritual scar that was from Salva's tribe. Salva goes on to explain the beef between his tribe (the dinka tribe) and their rivals (the nuer tribe). The woman noticed him and decided to give him peanuts because he looked like he was starving. He goes on to telling the woman about why he was there in the first place. Since he didn't want to be kicked out by the woman, he decided to work very hard. The woman wants to move to a different village near water and doesn't want to take Salva with her because he could possibly be killed. Then Salva saw a group of people who were talking that had a V-shaped scar on their foreheads.
