Elie a 12 year old Jewish boy fro Sighet. Elie studies Talmud which is the Jewish oral law and also the Jewish mystical text of the Kabbalah. Elies father doesn't believe he should be studying this because there is no Kabbalists in Sighet. Moishe the Beadle who is awkward and shy teaches him Kabbalah. One day the hungarian police expeled all of the foreign Jews from Sighet. Moishe the Beadle and the other Jews who are just like him are packed into train cars like cattle, many months later Moishe the beadle returns. Moishe warns the people of Sighet to leave because death was coming there way, but no body listens to him.  This is the end of 1942. Elizers father told Elie to go pack and tell the neighbours to pack too. The police check if they had valuables on them.  The Wissels weren't on the first train to leave. -Is highly respected by the entire Jewish community of Sighet
-He and Elie try to stay together throughout their concentration camp
