Boba tea, also known as bubble tea, originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s. The most widely recognized story of its creation involves Lin Hsiu Hui, a product development manager at Chun Shui Tang in Taichung, who added tapioca balls to iced tea in 1988, creating a unique and refreshing drink. Another account attributes its invention to Tu Tsong-he at the Hanlin Tea Room in Tainan, who experimented with tapioca balls in green tea around 1986.

Why?

The Hanlin Tea room claims that the owner, Tu Tsong-He came across some white tapioca balls in the Ah-bó-liâu local market. He had the idea of mixing them with tea and called it "pearl tea".

Sushi has a rich history that spans centuries, this technique spread to Japan around the Nara period (710-794), where it evolved significantly. Initially, only the fish was consumed, but during the Muromachi period (1336-1573), the Japanese began eating the rice along with the fish, marking a pivotal shift in sushi's development.

Why?

Sushi, a poor man's food, is said to have originated in Japan, Narezushi with poor farmers preserving fish with salt. Nazerushi was primarily rice and fish pickled together, mixed with rice vinegar and sake.

Boba tea, although not as big of a market as Boba Tea, is widely consumed in the world, but primarily in these few countries:

-Taiwan

-China

-U.S.

-South Korea

-Thailand

Boba Tea's ingredients are Tapioca Pearls, Tea base, Milk and Non dairy-milk alternatives and Sugar

Tapioca Pearls come from Thailand, Brazil, Nigeria and Indonesia. Tea base comes from China, India and Kenya. Milk and non-dairy milk alternatives come from international companies, such as Oatly AB and Vitasoy International Holdings Limited, which are located mainly in Sweden and the United States. Sugar comes from Brazil, India and China.

Boba tea's significant dates include its origins in the early 1980s in Taiwan, where Liu Han-Chieh and others began serving cold tea. In 1986 and 1987, Tu Tsong He and Chun Shui Tang are credited with adding tapioca pearls, popularizing bubble tea. The drink spread across Asia in the 1990s and was introduced to the U.S. by Taiwanese immigrants in the late 1990s. Sharetea, a prominent brand, was founded in 1992. Today, April 30th is celebrated as National Bubble Tea Day.

Boba Tea is significant because it isn't just a symbol of Asian culture, it brings people together, fostering social connections between young asian teens. Beyond its humble beginnings, Boba tea has become an inclusive global trend that continues to be significant in the market today, with a market value of about 3 billion USD.

Boba Tea is inclusive due to the fact that the drink is easily customizable, with most stores generally offering several different versions consumers can try. Some offer different milk for those with diary allergies of preferences, some have the option to lower the sugar or use sugar substitutes, and some stores even allow customers to change the ingredients in the pearls, perhaps using fruits or jelly instead. This overall makes Boba tea an inclusive drink anyone can enjoy.
