I agree with what Dr. Pant says. When you have learners in the classroom that have arrived from another country, especially when they have another language, you must readapt the methodology to be sure those students can follow the classes. It's a bit like what happens when you start teaching a subject through CLIL. You need more scaffolding, more active and engaging methodologies, more effective classroom dynamics...

I agree. As a teacher I have to deal with different cultures and traditions. Families and their daily habits are different and varied. I try to use this difference to make the lessons more active and varied. Students from other countries can teach us (students and teachers) as well.

I think, integrating refugees into our schools offers the chance to think about our curricula, the way of teaching. We cannot be successful when not realizing the individual needs of our students and switch to subject oriented ways of teaching and learning. This has for a long time highly been neglected (at least in our German schools).

I couldn't agree more! All the inclusive practices we can think of for inside and outside the classroom are actually the only ones promising to make today's school meaningful to every pupil. Yes, I agree. There should be cooperation between the school-teacher-parent. I talked to my students about this situation. I said that they should try to talk to him calmly because he did not understand them. I gave my refugee students tasks in the classroom, and as they implemented the tasks, their sense of belonging and responsibility developed. They started to communicate more quickly and use the language fluently. Patience and understanding are very important.

Globalisation is a very wide word, and sometimes it still remains difficult to make things different.
When we receive pupils from other countries in a portuguese school we tend to help and cherish them. Yet, facing the language challenge can defeat some. So, I think that the investment in the language is one of the most important ones. Then, when we receive a refugee it's even more challenging, because integration becomes a serious matter, sometimes we face some suspicion from them. So, most important in these situations is try to integrate them, but without forcing, because if the language is an issue, an empathic group of people can be precious.
So, I think the integration work in schools must be adapted to the group we receive and to their main aims. No doubt, a big challenge to be managed as time goes by!

I agree. Our school has already had this experience because we accepted refugee teenagers from Ukraine. We can see that not all usual mechanisms work, so we have to rethink, to find some new mechanisms which allow us to integrate these children into our school and make the whole school process function better.

I agree with the video and the rest of the comments. Diversity always is a challenge. It's an opportunity to adapt and to develop our own job. When we receive people from other countries we realise other points of view and other kind of doing things, so it can be positive for students and teachers. In schools we speak a lot about peace and respect, but it seems far. If we have in our schools students from other countries we learn about respect, we learn about other cultures and even other ways to learn. For example, in Asia or Ghana students do maths totally different! In our path to integrate it's a way to find new ways of methodology and innovate. So welcoming students always is an enrichment and an opportunity.

I agree, because there needs to be close cooperation between school-teacher-parent. Through all the activities carried out with our students in collaboration with the refugee students, we achieved a communication and the implementation of the work tasks. We also had a lot of help from the refugee language teachers. Thus, they began to communicate faster and use the language fluently.

The first time you welcome the migrant and refugee pupils at school, is the first time you realize that things must change for your school. Of course, I agree with Prof.Dr. Hans Anand Pant that the integration of immigrants and refugees in schools can be a good way to promote educational innovation. However, it is necessary to take into account other factors, such as the teachers' willingness to evolve, the time available and the resources offered by the administration, which are very limited (at least, in Spain). What is true is that having immigrants in classroom is a challenge that we must face in the best possible way.

I completely agree with prof. Anand Pant that the work required to the School to integrate refugees could be a powerful driven for innovation.
The integration of refugees and migrants is a challenge and an opportunity to rethink and to revisit pedagogical approach, curriculum and teaching and learning models.
Starting from the needs and resources of single person can help to build a suitable path for every student like the UDL Universal Design for Learning suggests.It is important flexibility, listening, thinking, collaboration for teachers and between teachers and at others levels is fundamental the involvment of Institutions.

I fully agree with this idea. But this is also the case for any student with an atypical background. Often, the arrival of a migrant or refugee pupil means that other forms of support must be offered to his or her pupils, and others can offer it. Beware! We have 70 refugee students. We created integration classes to integrate them into our school. We held different activities to improve Turkish speaking, writing, reading and comprehension skills. We organized trips, played games.

Yes, I agree. I think that communication between refugee students will be achieved more quickly with the cooperation of school-teacher-parents. No doubt that welcoming refugee students into schools presents a great challenge, but above all a great opportunity for schools, teachers and students.
In fact, welcoming other refugee students allows them to experience and put into practice the principles of citizenship so often announced and discussed within the European Union. The reception, by schools and teachers, of refugee students, allows a real, concrete and strong lesson of what it means to be a democratic citizen, respectful of differences, welcoming. An opportunity for learning and assuming what it means to be a citizen of Europe and the world.
