The country who could first get satellites into earths atmosphere would be able to predict weather, easily communicate internationally, and possibly launch orbital strikes on its enemy. Within months, the U.S. had its own NASA space program with satellites in space. Additionally, the American people were drawn into the patriotic exploration. Ultimately, the launching of Sputnick was important for sparking the space race and contributing to a sense of American nationalism.

The U.S had always had soldiers in South Korea prior to the end of WWII, but when the War ended, they pulled all but 500 troops out of Korea; this intrigued the USSR and North Korea. The USSR decided to back North Korea in an all out attack against South Korea, hopping that the U.S would not come to the aid of South Korea. After an initial push by North Korea, 16 nations sent around 520,000 troops into Korea to fight along side the South Koreans. After a few months of fighting, the South Korean side had pushed the North Koreans up to the Chinese border. In a surprise move, China came to the aid of North Korea and began to push the UN forces back into South Korea into the capital city of Seoul. Months of fighting proved pointless as in July of 1953, a cease-fire was proclaimed.

The U.S. ended up finishing a functional prototype first and later tested both the Little Boy and Fat Man on Japan towards the end of the war in an effort to make the Japanese surrender. Each bomb killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese and sent a wave of fear throughout the world showing the United States true power. The Soviet Union immediately developed its own atomic weapons in order to match themselves with the United States. Overall, the atomic bombing in Japan killed entire cities as well as further sparked what would soon become the Cold War between the US and USSR.

However, the USSR were more responsible for causing damage to the European countries which ultimately lead to the Marshall Plan. During World War ll, the USSR was helping the Nazis while the Nazis helped the USSR modernize. This interchange. In conclusion, the Marshall Plan was a cause and effect. The USSR were responsible for starting the damage done in Europe while the United States were responsible for helping them aid.

In the Suez Crisis, both Britain and the United States were helping to aid Egypt during the war. However when the war started, the United States called for a retreat in Israeli, Britain and French units. While the war was going on, the Soviet Union saw this as an opportunity to grow its middle eastern influence. The Soviet Union would supply arms to the Syrian Military. Even though, the United States grew its relations with Egypt it increased its tensions with the growing Soviet Union. This responsibility for the 1956 war in Egypt is blamed on the United States. This is because the United States likes to stick their head where it doesn't belong which leads to more conflict. In the war, the United States was allying with Egypt which ultimately created tensions with other nations including Isreal, Britian, France, and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union does have a part of the blame due to their action of creating more allies instead of helping the other nations.

The blame for the creation of the Berlin Wall was the Soviet Union. Even thought the communist germans were responsible for building the wall, the Soviet Union ordered them to. When Berlin was separated into 2, the west side's economy was flourishing causing people from eastern Germany to move. This caused frustration from the Soviet Union which led them to build the wall.

The Soviet Union holds most of the responsibility for the creation of NATO because of their political behavior. The Soviet Union is constantly was seen as a communist country with nuclear weapons that uses the concept of manipulation to attract Allies and support. NATO was only formed to protect the countries of the world from the active Soviet Union. Overall, the Soviet Union holds 80% of the responsibilty for the creation  NATO due to their nuclear hostile activity while the United States holds 20% of the responsibilty because they physcially created NATO.

The Warsaw Pact has the same concept as NATO - which is to protect the countries from nuclear weapons - only the Warsaw Pact is led by the Soviet Union. 
The Soviet Union holds the most repsonsibilty to this action. The Warsaw Pact was created after the NATO as a way of showing rivalry. The Soviet Union would have never created the Warsaw Pact if it weren't for NATO. However, NATO would have not been created if it weren't for the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union, in a way, created a pac against itself. The only reason the Warsaw Pact was created to show rivalry and to not seem weak - the Warsaw Pact would remove the Soviet Unions reputation of being isolated.

Additionally, the three leaders decided to split Germany and other captured territories in Europe by giving control of the West to the US and Britain while the East went to the USSR. Stalin promised that the countries in eastern Europe would have free elections in order to convince the US and Britain that he would be responsible with the new territories. However, Stalin did not follow through on this promise and set up puppet governments to control all his new territory which lead to increased tensions between the USSR and the other allies. Overall, the decisions made at the Yalta Conference lead to more friction between the US and USSR and started the race to spread each countries form of government across the globe.

This however was not enough for the US, and the Cold War arms race began as the US went even bigger with the creation of the Hydrogen bomb which was the equivalent of 10,000 kilotons of TNT. A snowball effect began in both countries as they raced to have the biggest arsenal that would scare the other. Ultimately, the creation of the Hydrogen bomb was the spark that the US and USSR needed to begin creating the most dangerous weapons on earth.

This event led President Kennedy to retaliate by setting up a Naval blockade around Cuba cutting them off from all trade. This added huge tensions with US, Cuban, and USSR international relations. Overall, the USSR was responsible for causing a Naval and political tension to come between the two countries.

This attack was anticipated by Fidel Castro and successfully stopped with a result of over one-hundred deaths. The Bay of Pigs Invasion ultimately led to increased tensions between the US and USSR because while the US tried to hide their involvement, it was clear to everyone who had orchestrated the attack.

This launch gave the Soviets an early lead in the space race. This sudden launch of Sputnik forced the U.S to pour money into a space program of their own. Later on in 1957, the U.S attempted their first satellite launch, but it failed. However, in 1958, the U.S finally successfully launched their first satellite into space.

Eisenhower's "open skies", the U.S began secret high-altitude flights over Soviet territories. These secret missions were done by special planes called U2's. However, Soviet infrared cameras began picking up these secret flights. Eisenhower began getting nervous about these flights, so he decided to discontinue these flights. One last U-2 flight was executed, and the pilot of the aircrafts name was Francis Gary Powers. Powers's plane was shot down over Soviet Russia and he was forced to parachute from the plane. Powers was captured and sentenced to 10 years in a Soviet prison. This was the last flight a U-2 mission ever executed over Soviet Russia.

At first, it seemed like Britain was set up to deliver aid to both Greece and Turkey, but due to the fact that their economy had been hit hard by WWII, they were unable to assist. So they called upon the U.S, whose economy at the time was one of the strongest in the world. Truman agreed that measures needed to be taken, so he took matters up with Congress and asked them to grant Turkey and Greece the $400 million worth of aid. Congress accepted and from 1947-1950, the U.S sent $400 million to both Greece and Turkey in order to reduce communist takeover.

In 1989, turmoil affected all of Berlin. Thousands of refugees attempting to go from East Berlin to West Berlin caused a lot of controversy among the high standing individuals in Berlin. Many of these immigrants were Hungarians were attempting to get to Czechoslovakia. So in November 1989, the wall was finally "broken down" and East Berlin and West Germany were reunited. This reunited many families that had been separated since 1961.

The coup was a C.I.A executed covert operation in which the U.S government invaded Guatemala. The Guatemalan government was believed to have communist ties because they had given away around 200,000 acres worth of American land and gave the land to poor peasants. The C.I.A began a nationwide takeover of Guatemala in 1954, in order to overthrow then president Jacobo Árbenz. At first, the military backed the president and were ready to fight for him. But as the days passed, the army gave up on the president. The president then resigned and the military took over the government.
