Politically, Tarlo addresses how hair intersects with issues of power, control, and resistance. She examines historical and contemporary contexts where hair becomes a site of political expression or oppression. For example, she discusses how certain hairstyles have been regulated or stigmatized to suppress cultural identities, while others have been embraced as symbols of resistance and empowerment. This analysis reveals how hair can be entangled with political ideologies and social movements, serving as a medium through which individuals and groups navigate and challenge societal structures.

Emma Tarlo delves into the intricate global trade of human hair, highlighting the industry's lack of regulation and the ethical concerns that arise from it. She brings attention to the opaque nature of hair sourcing, where hair collected from various origins—such as Hindu temples, Buddhist nunneries, and waste heaps—is transformed into wigs and extensions without transparent tracking of its provenance. This opacity raises ethical questions about the exploitation of vulnerable populations and the potential for deceit in the marketing of hair products.

In this configuration, each loop in the knitted object interlaces with loops from both the preceding layer and course, ensuring structural integrity and complexity.

Machine Prototype: They developed a prototype solid knitting machine resembling a conventional V-bed knitting machine but enhanced with dual rotating hook arrays. These arrays serve as storage for all loops in a given layer, facilitating the autonomous production of solid-knit prisms of varying lengths. While the machine automates most of the knitting process, manual intervention is required to initiate the first layer and finalize the last row.

The paper "Hair cell identity establishes labeled lines of directional mechanosensation" investigates how hair cells in the zebrafish lateral line system establish and maintain direction-specific neural pathways, essential for behaviors like posture control and rheotaxis. The study identifies that the transcription factor Emx2 diversifies hair cell identities, guiding polarity-selective synapse formation with afferent neurons. Notably, this synaptic specificity operates independently of presynaptic structures and uniform hair cell orientation, indicating that planar cell polarity and synaptic partner matching are separate processes. Additionally, regenerating axons re-establish connections based on Emx2 expression rather than global orientation, suggesting a robust mechanism for maintaining directional mechanosensation despite receptor cell turnover. This mechanism implies that linking connectivity patterns to cellular identity, rather than polarity, may ease developmental and evolutionary constraints in the innervation of organs with varying orientations.

The paper discusses the use of aerosol technology as a sustainable solution for water conservation in the garment bleaching process, which is traditionally water-intensive. In conventional bleaching, large amounts of water are required for rinsing and washing the garments to remove excess bleach and chemicals. The use of aerosol technology, however, introduces a more efficient approach by delivering bleach in the form of a mist or aerosol spray. This method reduces the need for large volumes of water, thus significantly lowering water consumption.

On hair provides rich and diverse material, along with much ground for the development of theory. Hairstyles identify our age, gender, ethnicity, and social class. Hair speaks a language of culture, telling others how to perceive us. When I moved to Afghanistan as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1970, for example, I quickly learned that I must braid
and cover my waist-length blond hair if I wanted to be taken seriously as
a teacher, and avoid being stoned as a witch. Treatment of hair can be
read as a symbolic language expressing relationships of the individual
and society. The interdisciplinary implications of this subject are broad:
a full treatment would involve methods from anthropology, psychology,
religion, ethnic studies, political science, and gender studies.

Why did America go blond?" Gladwell links hair colour, identity, and commodification of happiness in post-WWII American
society. From the untamed hippy look of the musical "Hair" to punk
spikes and anime-influenced blatantly artificial dyes, hair treatments
symbolise identification with youthful rebellion or other group affinities.

He notes that hair raises social issues, provides a symbolic discourse for inscribing meanings on the body, and links nature and nurture. Hair can be provocative, sexual, and culturally destabilising.

It has different meanings in different contexts, but always supplies a rich
language of self-expression and cultural identification. Looking at hair,
we look at the other and ourselves. Obeyesekere presents this book as
flrst steps in a search for a grammar or semiotics of hair that will be loose
enough to account for the great diversity of Asian experiences.

Chapter Hair Troupes: emphasises the power of hair to mark boundaries between men and women, public and private, powerful and subjugated, ordinary and
extraordinary. Hiltebeitel uses the example of the Indian Buddhist theoretician Buddhaghosa's meditation on our repulsive and innumerable hairs to show both the ubiquity and shock power of hair as image.

"Hair and Society: Social Significance of Hair in South Asian Traditions,"
the most theoretical paper here. Olivelle situates hair in the current
discourse on the body, contrasts the social readings of groomed and loose
hair, and notes the liminal meanings of hair. He relates the treatment of
hair to sexuality, ritual pollution, separation, and social control in Indian society. Hair provides a condensed symbol that can express compliance to or liberation from institutional controls. Olivelle cautions against one-dimensional understandings of hair treatment. His ideas show great
promise for generalisation to other times and places.

"'Long Black Hair Like a Seat Gushion': Hair Symbolism in Japanese
Popular Religion," by Gary L. Fbersole, a historian of religions, moves
us back in time to the world of Heian (794-1185) Japan. He starts with
a list of current proverbs, rituals and folk beliefs involving hair, then
examines comparable references to hair in early poetry, myth, and ritual.
He argues that hair in Japanese tradition is a natural symbol used to
represent human development or aging. In literary and ritual texts, hair
also refers to the bond between two people or to the essence of the person
from whose head it comes. Hair's use in ritual and magic is linked to its
identification with the individual soul. For twelve hundred years, hair in
Japan has been associated with sexuality and the power of fertility or
vitality (and their opposites, disease or death). Its power as a symbol
springs from its meanings in both nature and religious anthropology.

Bangladesh Exemption from MFA (multi-fibre agreement) and its impact on Textile Industry.

Bangladesh owes its prominence and growth in the global textile industry to its initial exemption from the Multi-Fibre Agreement which was originally put in place to place quotas on export of garments to developed countries. Instead Bangladesh was 'granted quota-free access to the United States market, attracted foreign private investments in manufacturing factories. This, in turn, facilitated significant development of skills and industry knowledge among local entrepreneurs, leading to growth of domestic ventures under the patronage of successive political regimes (Mottaleb and Sonobe, 2011). Given the economic and political significance of the manufacturing sector, the government has traditionally adopted a 'retreatist' approach to environmental regulations for industries - one that is 'strong on paper' but 'weak in enforcement' (Peters, 2022).
