         <description><![CDATA[<div>The ascomycota are a phylum of fungi. Their defining common feature is their ascus, or sac. This is a microscopic structure in which non motile, meaning not moving, ascospores are formed. <br>The ascomycota generally have two mating options, either sexually via ascospore or meiotically. <br>One example of ascomycota is the lichen. The lichen occupies an interesting ecological niche as it often lives symbiotically with green algae. While the photoautrophic algae produces an energy source for the fungi, the lichen offers a matrix to support the algae's growth, as well as protection from the harsh environment. Around 42% of ascomycota form lichens. As we saw earlier in the video, Ascomycota fungi often takes on a mycorrhizal relationship i.e. a symbiotic association with a plant. The mycorrhiza ensures greater nutrient uptake for the plant's root system, while the plant provides photosynthetic energy. <br><br><a href="http://tolweb.org/Ascomycota">http://tolweb.org/Ascomycota</a></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Common names include: Red Staining mushroom (as the shroom turns red if scratched) and the Blushing Wood shroom. Like most basidiomycetes, it is edible (there is some controversy among its poisonous qualities, but it is still classified as edible). Even though its edibility remains controversy, it does help cancer patients cope with cancer and has been proven significantly reduce symptoms of it.
