We can support our artistes by recognising and show our support more actively. A couple tweets here, some FB posts there. The more actively we support them the better their position. And for those artistes that we really like we should strive to bug at least 1 of their albums.

This is a simple song telling a girl that she doesn’t have to be insecure about herself because she’s perfect just the way she is. This song was my jam back in 2012 and it brings back so many memories just listening to it. It also reminds me of how obsessed I was with One Direction (I actually still am). 

 

3)     When We Were Young – Adele 

This is just a cover of the song that I can find on Youtube but you can listen to the original one on Spotify. This song is about growing up and how time flies so fast that you don’t realise how much you’ve wasted your life doing something dull. “I wish I could live a little more; Look up to the sky, not just the floor”, this lyric point out that Adele wishes she could’ve done better in her past life and now looking back at it, she regrets the things she has done. I feel like since I’m still relatively young, I should take this as a lesson and make the most out of my youthful year.

 

2. How can we support the music industry further?

We can do this by buying the albums of your favourite singers and going to their concert to watch them perform live. Another way we can support is through Spotify Premium as you pay monthly to listen to their songs without any advertisement interfering your flow of music. Lastly, you may also buy their merchandise such as their T-shirts, bracelets, posters, biography books, etc.

It is not often that you find a rare song where you can’t decide between the instrumentals and vocals as being better than the other. Sweet child o mine by guns and roses was this song for me.a song made iconic by the famous by the beautiful guitar solo by lead guitarist slash. A melody that is so popular that its always found somewhere in the top guitar solo lists to this day. But the great instrumentals do not detrect5 from the deep soulful lyrics delivered masterfully by front man axel rose. The lyrics tell an unusually innocent and sweet tale about love from the usually quite rowdy band. According to rose he penned these lyrics with his then girlfriend as his inspiration so that the song would feel more ’’heartfelt”. The song means a lot to me as it was what ignited my love of rock and roll from that era.

The song is not very heavy on symbolism or hidden meanings.it is a very open and honest ode to the love.

 

A tragic song about a bombing in march 20 1993 that claimed the life of two small children, singer Dolores o’Riordan penned this song as a protest against the violence. The lyrics invoke a feeling of anger and sadness as the singer berates the listener for not taking action and staying silent by mockingly repeating ”it’s in your head “ and calling us “zombies’’  to make us realize that terrible things are happening around the world while we are wrapped in our own bubbles .the song takes a more hopeless tone as the singer speaks of it being ‘’the same old theme since 1916 ‘’ referring  to the violence that that plagued the Irish people since the war of 1916. I love that song as it is a very raw and emotional tune that invokes a lot of feelings inside me

A song penned as a tribute to the troops that fought during the Vietnam War. Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel is a very anti-war song that invokes feelings of pity and sadness as it paints a vivid picture of a soldier's first foray into war. A song made unusual by the fact it shows the soldier as weak and scared as opposed to the usually overly patriotic propaganda songs of that era.it must be noted that this song is also very respectful to both sides of the war and does not try to push an American agenda .the lyrics are very raw and emotional as it tells of the fear the soldiers felt during their flight over the juggle Knowing they could be shot down at any time and how they either learned to adapt or they died. This song made me rethink my own military career and instilled a lot of anti-war feelings within me 

The entire concept of the song is inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin short story, “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas”. The book is about a young boy who had to sacrifice his happiness to ensure the happiness of the people around him to maintain the balance of life. The song shows the end of winter into spring which depicts the start of a new beginning which allows the ‘someone’ to start anew just like a spring day. It doesn't necessarily mean that they were desperate to meet their loved ones but more so to all the ups and downs they had gone through

Suga from BTS wrote this song from his past experiences as a teenager where he suffered from depression and was close to ending his life. He ended the song by telling the listeners that everything will be okay in the end. The songs tells people to follow their dreams and do what makes them happy even though that dream is almost impossible to achieve.

The lyrics clearly shows the suffocation a person faces when they do not receive the love they want. This song proves that emotions and love does many things to a person be it causing someone’s downfall or success.

We can start by becoming open-minded about the music we listen to. Besides streaming and buying their albums, we can support the music industry by being more appreciative and empathizing with the artistes. We can start supporting by listening to music in general without prejudice and start spreading positivity instead of hate. 

The basis underneath the entire song is that Post Malone is feeling like a ‘rock star’ which is a synonym for drugs-sex-money lifestyle. It’s earning fast money and burning the money faster. Post Malone’s recent success must be feeling as if he is going through this downward spiral.

Song 2. Hotline bling - drake

“Hotline Bling” is most likely about Drake’s old flame from Toronto, Nebby. She’s had an on and off relationship with the 6 God a few times, and her Instagram account is a constant reminder that she’s never home – always traveling to exotic places, and out wearing almost nothing. Based on the lyrics, it’s as if Drake wrote this song while scrolling through her instragram page.

Song 3. Fake love - drake

“Fake Love” finds Drake criticizing friends and associates who only show him love because of his incredible success. He identifies their false emotions and explains how he deals with them. The song was released during Drake’s birthday episode of OVO Sound Radio.

I used to have a part in life where I am really fed up of constantly studying and getting good grades. I came across the song with the lyrics on and was shocked as it relates to me a lot. This song talks about how the youth nowadays are always being forced to do stuff they do not like and encourages them to follow their dream. Although it is in Korean, we can still see clearly from the translation what they were trying to say. I would say throughout the whole song that the lyrics are legit and the few clear ones are as so: “A good house, a good car, will these things bring happiness? In Seoul, To the SKY, will parents really be happy?” It reflects a lot of what we think nowadays, whether is getting all these privileges something that can make us happy. This particular sentence I am going to share has been the reason why I want to change, “Don’t be trapped in someone else’s dream.”

Here is another BTS song (sorry for torturing HAH). This song is more of a reflection of them but it also sends out messages to all the people that are struggling in achieving their dream. The verse of the song talks about how they are fear of the mistakes they do as they are getting all the attentions throughout their career now. People’s opinions started to flood and have made them doubt but they chose to never give up and not let the words get to them. They chose to live at the moment which is pursuing their dream as artists and hope to live young forever. If we look from the perspective of other people, it has the same meaning too, that is we hope that we can be forever young, living the dream we want.

Next one will be an English song (didn’t want to torture anyone with more kpop HAHA). This song has always been my favourite and I actually hope everyone gets to hear it. The song is easy to understand as the lyrics are straight to the point. It talks about how the people nowadays want to be pretty to fit the standards of the world. One of the lyrics that I really like is “And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart, no scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful,” it is really meaningful as it is trying to tell the people that they are not just about the looks, they are beautiful just the way they are and I think that is what everyone should know.

Attending concerts are actually one great way to support the musicians and singers too but it is still quite costly. By streaming their songs on official listening platforms such as Spotify or YouTube can actually be a form of supporting the artist as the views or stream are counted in charts as well. Having higher views and streams can also boost popularity and publicity. There are also shows that musicians and singers attend, watching these shows can help gain more viewing figures and shows that how supportive we are towards these musicians and singers.

Its about having a crazy crush on someone clearly.

Of the feelings never told? “ This song simply talks about all the things that happens to you when you have a crush on someone, all your feelings that you are too scared to tell that person how you feel and it is that, that drives you insane, such a lovely song.

 

The song is about second chances and forgiveness; the writer recognizes the ups and downs of this girl and encourages her to just keep at it and carry on because he will be there for her.

 

Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” appears on Time Out of Mind (1997) and was initially released by Billy Joel, before Dylan’s version appeared on the album. 

For me this is a beautiful, beautiful song and all the hidden depths that exist within Dylan’s music (but which those unable to hear the songs without prejudice fail to find), are fully revealed here if only one takes the moment to appreciate the totality of what is going on.

a)      Livewire by Oh Wonder. This song is about “Livewire” employs the term for an exposed electric cable as a metaphor for the vulnerability and intimacy of love. It is used to explore the singer’s personal  longing, fear and self-doubt. 

 

b)      Ending Scene by IU. The lyrics on this song is about self-doubt, the fear of never being able to love again or even just feel alright again after experiencing the end of a relationship. It takes the form of a monologue addressed to the ex-lover.

This song is actually the first song I heard by BTS, it catchy and tells quite an amazing and touching story behind it. This song is actually about their own personal struggle as idols and also reaching out to ARMY (their fans). It says that they can’t promise that everything will be fine and then as idols not everyone will like you or support the work that you do but they did not care for it they just need to prove it to themselves and to ARMY that they are worthy. They also thanked ARMY for supporting them through their dark times. They know that our past cannot change, so they want ARMY to forget all the sad memories and they are reaching out their hands for ARMY and hope our days to be better.

                This song is their newest song and it’s actually mostly dedicated to their hater. It tells that how they are rising on top now. They’ve made mistakes but it’s okay, because they are fine, they had also win lots of awards and the haters are fed up because of it. This song is a sneer for the haters by proving how successful BTS are now.

Melted – Akdong Musician 

                This is quite interesting for me, it reflects about life. How life has a starting point and also an end point. In this video it shows a man looking down from a tall building and having flashbacks. The life he had before is far from the life he has now. It shows that some people actually struggles to get where they are now, and he struggles all by himself. Its actually quite hard to explain but this is quite the summary of the video.

2. Starry Starry Night by Don Mclean
Don Mclean wrote this song as a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh's , using Van Gogh's masterpiece, "Starry Starry Night" where he painted it while being locked up in an asylum. I really enjoy this piece, the lyrics are just like a painting, with images that really do say what they had to be said.
I have always loved art and had been drawing since I was a child. I can't say that this song relates to me or my life, but I particularly enjoyed how Mclean wrote this song for Van Gogh. The lyrics that stood out for me would be
"Now I think I know what you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will ..."
"Portraits hung in empty halls"
"Frameless head on nameless walls"
These would be the only parts that struck me hard, despite the song's ever-amazing soft and mellow melody and Mclean's soothing voice.
The reason why it struck me was because of how sad it is, Van Gogh’s family did not support his artwork. Van Gogh’s greatness was never recognized by his family and associates during his lifetime, selling only one picture. His brother, Theo, who had the same mental illness was the only one that supported Van Gogh.
Moving back to the lyrics, it talks about how no one understood Van Gogh and never tried, only throwing him into an asylum, which made his illness worse, and deemed him as insane without even glancing at the beautiful paintings he created. Despite the recognition he has now, Mclean claims that people would still not listen to troubled people and not define them insane easily and lock them away.

Personally, that I can relate to, many people would say that they understand or claims that they are listening, yet what they are doing is only hearing.
As an amateur artist myself, the next two lyrics hurt me. While Van Gogh was still alive, his paintings were only hung in empty halls as no one would even recognize his talent. He only got his well-deserved fame after his death, leaving life without knowing how amazing he was.

3. Truce by Twenty One Pilots
This is one of those songs that really made me think about my life. The lyrics are short and repetitive yet the message in there is deep. The slow and dynamically played piano chords is beautifully accompanied by Tyler Joseph's voice that was filled with emotion. I truly love this song and would often go back to this song when I really need a kick in the back to face reality again.
The lyrics that I hold on to tightly would be

We will all die eventually at one point, don't focus on that yet, accomplish things that you can truly be prideful about before you die, so take pride in what you have now; essentially, live in the moment.

Personally, I think just by listening to the music produced by the artist him/herself is a great form of support already. I'd be the happiest person alive if anyone were to listen to my music. Another way of providing support, in terms of helping the artist's financial status is by buying the official merchandises or going to their concerts. Write them something nice and how it changed your life, as far as I am concerned, everyone loves that, especially the artists, they would want to be motivated and see how their music is affecting you.

I love My Chemical Romance. I'm a very very big fan and this is one of the many songs that I listen to a lot. This song is also another comfort song of mind. When Gerard wrote this song, it was during the period of their disbandment. The song is to comfort and express his feelings to his daughter, and his bandmates whom he had missed. The song is also uplifting to me especially at the bridge where the transition to the chorus happens. (Bridge) Sometimes, we must grow stronger, And you can't be stronger in the dark, When I'm here, no longer, You must be stronger and (Chorus)  If I could be with you, tonight, I would sing you to sleep, Never let them take, The light behind your eyes . The whole part of the song speaks volume as it tells us to not just stay in our comfort zone as we need to grow stronger. The chorus tells how he wants to protect everyone from the ugly side of the world and that he wishes that they don't lose their happiness and innocence.

This song is by a British alternative rock/indie band. This song talks about how someone who was once depressed, found self acceptance and happiness. It talks about how they found strength to be themselves and to not hide anymore. They also no longer feel pain or isolated due to rejection or judgement.  Don't chicken out, it's all good, You're allowed to be what you could is a small part in the bridge that shows sends a message out to everyone to just be whoever they want to be and encourages self-discovery. It is definitely one of my favourites.

Nowadays, music streaming has taken over the music industry. With apps like Spotify, Joox and soundcloud, uprising artists also have another platform for them to gain popularity and recognition. I honestly still buy albums released by my favourite artists to support them and just to have a physical copy of the album instead of streaming. 2.) Since consumers can now listen to music for free in music apps such as Spotify and iTunes, the artists themselves should do more live concerts. Die hard fans will surely go to these concerts and appreciate them more. Live concerts are the best mainly because the fans can listen to the music live from their favourite artists and appreciate their  amazing talent. 


        

I only started listening to this song last year but it has been stuck to me ever since. I did not instantly like this song when I heard it for the first time, but after listening to it several times I felt an emotional attachment to it. It spoke to me at a very personal level and it was one of the songs I’d listen to when I was sad. The whole song speaks about losing someone you love and the pain of going through it. My Chemical Romance is one of my favorite bands because their songs were one of the few that I listened to during my childhood. Their songs have helped me through my hardest times. It was a sad moment to find out they broke up but I will cherish the legacy that they have left in the world of music. 

Car Radio – Twenty One Pilots 

This was one of the songs that brought fame to Twenty One Pilots. This has got to be one of the most poetic songs from them. It is filled with many metaphors explaining our personal fight with our own thoughts. In life, we often have battles with our thoughts and it can be very destructive. “I have these thoughts so often I ought to replace that slot with what I once bought cause somebody stole my car radio and now I just sit in silence”, this phrase from the song talks about how we use music to cover up what we’re going through but when the music is gone, the depressing thoughts start coming into our heads. I could really relate to this song because it was very real to me. I have constant battles with my own thoughts, it has been a struggle for me but this song has also helped me go through it. Many people don’t appreciate the music they make because of the thought provoking lyrics and their style of music. Twenty One Pilots is also my all-time favorite artist because they write good music for the sake of sharing their experiences with life, rather than making catchy songs to go on radio. 

Fix You – Coldplay 

This song was written by Chris Martin for the passing of his ex-wife’s father. This song is also about losing someone you love. “Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones and I will try to fix you” these lyrics tells us that no matter what we go through, there will always be someone who will be there for us through our hardest times and there will always be hope. This song has touched me every time I listened to it because it has so much emotion in it. This song has also helped me through my hardest times of losing people I love. Coldplay has also made many other great songs but this one has had the biggest impact on me.

I personally think that music artists deserve to get paid for their work. Music is also a work of art but many people fail to realize it. I subscribe to Spotify Premium to be able to support these artists financially. I also tend to share music i like to my friends through social media and this helps gain reputation for these artists.

It tells people are beautiful in their own way. It is all about making girls feel better about themselves. Beauty is not just on the outside. Maybe she is, the fact that she’s nice and modest on the inside makes her really stand out from the crowd. That’s why they are attracted to her. In addition, if you truly like someone, you will see him/her in a way most people don’t. So, beauty is unique to the person that loves them. The words are very catchy, and their voices are magically beautiful. It’s fresh from all those generic crap that’s why I probably like it. 

This song is really energising; you will never get bored or tired of it. It is full of joy, and it’s urban, catchy and current. The beginning of the song is really cool, them being them! The verses are great, the chorus is catchy, and I love the atmosphere of the song! Sometimes, you fall in love with someone really intensely for whatever reason. It might be their looks or personality in particular, but something about them that makes them completely awesome. It’s a feeling of being taken by someone else and there’s nothing you can do about it as they walk by, and wonder if they will ever feel that same way about you. 

When I first listen to this song, it touched my heart! It has meaningful lyrics, and everyone has proper solos. It’s about the past, memories and relationships. The song is the obvious dwelling on failures, there’s a line “time is frozen” is about keeping the good memories, even though they might eventually fade. The song starts with by a girl telling him that "she doesn't feel the same way about us anymore”. Even though he still loves her and doesn’t know what happened, despite his own feelings, he let her go. He stays frozen to the way it used to be, slowly getting back on his personal life. Zayn said it’s all about remembering the people and relationships you had to make who you are today.

This song has a true revelation to me, I remember listening to this song at the age of 14. I was so drenched by the song as Birdy herself has a magnificent voice, and also was grabbed by the piano driven stanzas. The song is quick tempo but not upbeat, it has a sense of sorrow. Of course, the lyrics are heartwarming and beautiful too. 
This song talks about remembering the past events/good memories. Not trying to get back to that exact moment but rather appreciating and remembering all those valuable and irreplaceable moments.

The song originally was composed to bring hope to people during war times, to encourage those who had lost their love ones. As well as appreciate that there is still good in this world. This song really emphasize the fact that even though there are violence and hatred in this world, it is still beautiful and it is possible to make it great again. Sometimes I listen to this song to remind myself that the world is not that bad, and that I just need to focus on the right things.It’s a wonderful world after all :)

I remember my dad playing this song over and over when I was young. I am proud to say that this is my first ever favorite song. Bee Gees’s version is good, but Emi Fujita’s version of cover was as good too. 
I guess the song talks about how things will always be constantly evolving and changing but the love for one another will never change/fade away. Emphasizing that love can withstand through time.

I really love this song because it keeps me strong when im down. Especially when im mentally stressed. When no one can make feel better, this song does. Im more of a lyrics person and this song lyrics is so meaningful. This song is actually about a man that was forced to work in Africa and he suffers there. He keeps himself strong and does not give up on his life just to back to India to get back to his girlfriend. And the music was composed by AR Rahman, an Oscar award winning music director from India.

 I really love this song as well mainly because of the lyrics. This song reminds me of my boyfriend. As this was one of the first song that I sang to him when we got together in 2015.

This song was sung by one of my favourite singer, Sid Sriram. I have been learning indian classical vocal since young and i personally love this song as it a little hard to sing it and this song lyricst is amazing. The music in this song was composed by Mr.X which was really sinple but the lyrics made this song sound amazing. Being a classical vocalist, I would definitely want to  sing this song one day without any flaws just like him.

Throughout my life, there were many songs that I’ve influenced me. The songs that have influenced me most would probably be the songs that I started listening to when I was younger, due to my parents influence. Songs with deep meanings are really my cup of tea, as they can really put me to tears (if I’m surrounded with the right company).  

1.      You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban (2003)

This song reminds me a lot about my own roots, and to never forget them. It makes me reflect back to appreciate everything my parents have done to raise my brother and I up to become who we are today. The starting verse “When I am down and, oh, my soul, so weary; When troubles come and my heart burdened be; Then I am still and wait here in the silence, Until you come and sit awhile with me,” did put me in tears when it was played at my confirmation camp, when all the parents were invited to be with their children.

I first heard about this song in my first prefects workshop back then in 2013. Little did I know that it was also my mum’s favourite song. This song holds so much meaning to me, as it depicts my journey as a prefect. No journey is perfect and we all make mistakes, but if we continue to hold own together, we’ll finish strong. As the saying goes, “if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together”. Until today, #DuPrefects remains as a family.

 

3.      How Does A Moment Last Forever by Celine Dion (2017)

I’ve always loved Disney movies and songs. This song really got stuck in my head the moment I started listening to it. It made me realise that every moment in life can never be relived again the same way it was. It made me realise that in life, we’ll face good and bad times – but that’s what makes life, life! Lastly, it made me appreciate every moment in life, no matter how tiny it may be, and to appreciate the people who are a part of it too.
