Dr. Natalia Valderrama Dougherty provides quality orthodontic care to patients at her Melbourne, Florida-based private practice. Among her many oral health services, Dr. Natalia Valderrama-Dougherty helps patients with teeth alignment problems by installing braces.

When providers like Dr. Natalia Valderrama-Dougherty suggest braces, patients may associate the treatment with the metal brackets used to realign teeth. Traditional metal braces represent just one type available to the modern consumer. Traditional braces do have their benefits, however. They tend to be less expensive than other options, and modern metal brace designs have rendered them less noticeable than in the past.

Like traditional braces, lingual braces are made of metal. Unlike traditional braces, orthodontists install lingual braces on the back side of teeth, making them much less conspicuous. Some patients may have a more difficult time cleaning these braces since they are harder to access. However, they keep your orthodontic treatment private since others cannot see the braces behind the teeth.

Patients that choose Invisalign, an alternative to lingual and traditional options, place a series of clear plastic aligners over their teeth during a treatment period that lasts several months. These aligners gradually correct misaligned teeth. Moreover, since they’re clear, Invisalign aligners are very difficult to notice. But patients are expected to follow the same oral hygiene ans diet protocols as someone with traditional braces.

Another alternative patients have are the so called ceramic or clear braces. This braces are translucent and they are very convenient for someone that wants braces but less noticeable.

Braces Materials - Clear Ceramic

Dr. Natalia Valderrama Dougherty, a Florida-based orthodontist, graduated with her orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics specialist certificate from the School of Orthodontics at Jacksonville University. Through her practice, Valderrama Orthodontics in Melbourne, Florida, Dr. Natalia Valderrama Dougherty provides state-of-the-art treatments like clear braces.

Consumers may associate braces with the traditional metal brackets that are visible when patients smile. However, modern advances in orthodontics have resulted in materials that yield the same results as metal braces but effectively hide the brackets, preserving the aesthetic integrity of patient smiles.

Clear ceramic, one such material, can replace traditional metal brackets and have a number of advantages. Their transparency leaves a patient’s natural smile largely intact, meaning many observers won’t even recognize that the patient has braces. Moreover, if a ceramic bracket fractures or otherwise fails over the course of treatment, they are very easily replaced. Finally, clear ceramic braces are an especially good choice for adolescents and adults in need of fast, inconspicuous orthodontic treatment.

For more information about clear braces and other alternatives, please visit www.valderramaortho.com.
