In 1639 the Persians and Ottomans divided Kurdistan into two parts for the first time. After World War I the victorious powers England and France divided the area into semi-colonies. A revolutionary reform movement against colonisation emerged under General Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk) with the slogan "Islamic - Kurdish - Turkish Brotherhood" which finally won. The state of Turkey arose. Atatürk imposed his policy of "One state, one nation, one language, one identity", which meant that his own identities and cultures were to merge into a single Turkish one.
In addition to the practice of the Kurdish language and culture, the terms "Kurdish" and "Kurdistan" were also banned.
Speaking of Kurds and criticizing the oppression was considered a serious crime and was severely punished.
In 1925 the Kurds demanded "the establishment of the cultural, social and political rights of the Kurds, the establishment of an autonomous region and economic development in Kurdish regions of Turkey.
As a result, the Turks destroyed 200 villages and killed more than 15,000 Kurds. In 1938, the Turkish army killed up to 70,000 Alevis in Dersim.
The survivors of the massacres in Dersim who are still alive describe the incident of 1938 as 'Tertele', the day on which the world ended.
A "Tertele" talks about the Dersim genocide in the video.

For many Kurds, February 15 is a black day: Twenty years ago, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Abdullah Öcalan, was taken prisoner in Turkey.
Abdullah Ocalan founded the "Workers' Party of Kurdistan" (Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan - PKK) in Turkey in 1978, whose original goal was the establishment of an independent, socialist-oriented Kurdish state.
In 1984 Öcalan called for an armed struggle to achieve his goals. Through armed guerrilla groups - in particular the "People's Defense Forces" (HPG) - the PKK acted in Turkey, the northern Iraqi
border region and the north of the country Syria.
In 1984 the "party" took up the fight against the Turkish regime. First, two cities in the southeast of the country, in the Kurdish region, were occupied. During the occupation and in the following fights there were fatalities on both sides. In the course of the next years the PKK made demonstrations, kidnappings, assassinations, bomb attacks on government buildings in addition, on civilian mechanisms of itself speech. I think this is nearly unbelievable. I like your introduction it is very detailed. It’s really good that you‘ve mentioned the history about the Kurds because their situation is now more understandable for the ones who don’t know something about the topic. The pictures you have chosen for your blog are very meaningful. You informed with your blog about a topic which is significantly for a lot of people especially for kurds. I think it’s great that we are also perfectly informed about this topic now.

Lovely greetings, Lea

I also love the way you introduced us to the topic, by saying that this might just be "another blog", but this one was made by yourself. I also felt well informed while reading your blog and you made me think about this topic a bit more. All in all, I think this is a very well-structured blog, which deserves to be posted on an internet platform other than our padlet. Well done!
~ Tabea
