Hi Michelle,

Great comprehensive summary of Essentialism. When first reading this aspect of the theory, I was bothered by it because I personally believe that school can be so much more than teaching basic skills. If we leave school as a factory to produce  "good workers," then we are not teaching people to think for themselves. Creativity is necessary for innovation when tackling new problems, and leads to a healthier and more adaptable society.
