Immediately being greeted in Japanese by the host and server, we walked into a dimly lit restaurant filled with intricate decorations of all sorts. From Japanese masks and shoes on display, to Japanese red lanterns hanging from the ceilings, and Japanese alcohol and beer signs plastered on the walls, we immersed ourselves in a full Japanese restaurant experience! Because I went with a few friends, we were all able to order a variety of different foods such as Nabeyaki Udon, Ramen, Sashimi, Iidako Karaage, Ika Geso Karaage, Soft Shell Crab, and Takoyaki. Every dish was prepared to perfection, meeting all my expectations and more. The server was more than happy to recommend dishes, as well as refill our sake for the table. An Izakaya is a type of Japanese gastropub, typically a casual place to gather after work. Customers typically sit on tatami mats with low tables, or dine at tables. Honda-Ya stayed true to that format, offering dining at a table, as well as tatami seating on another side of their restaurant. As we ordered sake, Japanese beer, karaage, and sashimi, we ate as we were in a typical Izakaya, sharing our foods and drinking casually. If you want a genuine Japanese eating experience, you should definitely check Honda-Ya out! The delicious foods, impeccable service, and beautiful decorations truly made this experience fun and memorable. I've never been to Japan, but I hope dining is like this, or better! :)
