Jeffrey is really happy and energetic all the time, even with cancer. When gloomy visitors come, they expect Jeffy to be sad and sick, and when they come, he gets less happy, but he always bounces back. This shows Jeffy is strong and brave, and can withstand anything.

Usually Jeffy always wants Steven to play with him, and him not wanting to play is a sign of distress. Jeffrey really doesn’t feel good.

Page 92, when Steven is trying to pick out his clothes for the dance when his mom kept trying to help, although Steven did not need this help. He ended up keep repeating “MOM” in frustration of her helping. Steven repeats this over and over to show that he can pick his own clothes and grow up for himself. He is trying to take more responsibilities for himself.

Steven stays with Jeffy as he is stabbed, and later finds out Jeffy needs to be transported to Philadelphia. He goes home, and needs to help his father pack for Jeffy. He starts to cry, and his dad and him have the first interaction in a while. They hug, and then pack for him. "”Steven Richard Alper! What are you DOING!” I just told you I’m... “Steven, SHUT UP!” Holy cow. Now  something you don’t hear every day at our house.... I did this for Jeffery, mom. So he wouldn’t have to be bald alone.” When Steven shaves his head, it really shows how much he cares for his brother. When his mother says shut up it shows how much kaos is going around about Jeffery she diddnt realize that Steven was shaving his head for a good reason. A good moment was just about to come out of this cancer situation, but then Stephen’s mom is sick and his dad has to work, it might be up to Stephen to take Jeffery to the hospital. This shows that Stephen’s family is going to have to make a hard decision about what to do.

The Quadruple Uh-Oh
           There was a new rule in Stevens school. Every high school student would have to perform community service hours every semester if they wanted to graduate. Most kids in the All-City Jazz Band didn’t have time to do community service. Annette and Rene came up with an idea. They were going to make the concert a benefit. The money would go to Stevens family. Steven told his parents but they didn’t agree with the idea.
            It was the night before Mom and Jeffrey left for Philadelphia. Steven’s mom got sick. Jeffrey cannot be around anyone who is sick, so now his mom can’t take him. Who will?

In the chapter “A Men’s Journey” it is about how Steven’s mother is sick, that means Steven and his dad had to take Jeffery to the hospital instead. While at the hospital Steven sees this girl when he first walks in. He notices her pretty blue eyes. Later when he runs in to this girl again they start talking. He tells her all about his problems and about Jeffery, and she tells him all about her also.
