My goal for the year is to work on my student's improving their critical thinking skills using data collection, graphing and computations to construct explanations, design solutions and solve problems using evidence.
I also want to work on communication because knowledge without the ability to communicate is useless. I want them to be able to identify pertinent and accurate information, evaluate that information from various sources and be able to present it. I want to try to get them to analyze arguments using information about the parks to have them look for flaws, reasoning and bias.

Reflection of goals for the year

I feel that I have achieved more towards my goals than I anticipated. The goals I set could have been achieved in a normal process but the use of technology and problem solving totally changed the students perceptions. I really enjoyed teaching math using different forms of data and by having the students create using math versus just taking a test. I feel they are better prepared to deal with problems they may run across in the future.
I wish I would have worked more on communicating results. They have become better at being able to read and see the problem but I have not encouraged them to present their problems as much as I would have liked (mostly due to time constraints). I did get them to understand bias with the outlooks on wolves and plan to continue more projects throughout the year. I then plan to adjust my pltw classes to have more projects that relate to their future lives.
