How Women Had Been Affected by The 20's

During the 20's women had become more rebellious and started to attempt at gaining as many freedoms as men had. During this time a new ideal had come called the "flapper". This included women wearing dresses above the knees, hats, skin tone colored stockings and beads for jewelry. Some of the girls would even cut their hair into bobs and dye it black, along this they also started to smoke cigarettes and drink in public. Flappers had started to dance differently than they would before like the fox trot, camel walk, tango, and the charleston. As women started wanting more equal rights, marriages including middle aged couples had started becoming more equal. Before the 20's, men only "courted"/dated the women they were looking to marry, but during the 20's casually dating someone you weren't going to marry was more accepted and seen more often. A double standard was also started, it was a set of standards for women that they wouldn't have the same sexual freedom as men had. While all these things were happening more job opportunities had opened for people in the work area, like in offices, stores, factories and even professions. Eve though many women had jobs during the war, they had lost them once soldiers had returned. After this the women who had college degrees went into the "women's professions" such as nurses, and teachers. As time went on women kept breaking the old stereotypes, and by 1930 about 10 million women were earning wages and had a job.

Jazz music was first created in the beginning of the 20th century in New Orleans. Jazz is music that uses not only vocal blues but also many different instruments that give it a different sound. In 1918 the musician by the name of Joe "King" Oliver and his band went touring the north towards Chicago spreading the music to the people they encounter. Louis Armstrong was a young trumpet player that joined their band leading him to stardom in the world of jazz. Louis Armstrong made a big impact in the jazz world with his rhythm and improvisation on stage. Jazz had spread to many cities such as Kansas City, Memphis, and New York City, and was the most popular dance music. The Harlem Renaissance was a big part of changing the social and cultural changes that happened in the 1920's throughout the world.

The automobile had many effects in the world, but the biggest one was the construction of paved roads which made cars able to navigate in all types of weather. One of the legendary roads is Route 66. This road created route to California from western Chicago. Although it was mainly for the travel toward California, many had settled in the towns along the way. The automobile being created affected many different businesses, for example the pavement and garage building businesses. This also made the different car companies expand with how many cars sold. With cars becoming more and more popular, the railroads aren't being used like they had been before.

How the Airplane Affected People in The World

Along with automobiles becoming more popular, the airplane industry was booming. Airplanes started being used as ways to carry and deliver mail for the U.S post offices. As time went on and other things were developing, like weather forecasting, planes started to carry radios and other instruments to help with travel. This affected the postal service by being able to deliver mail to other states, countries, etc. faster. The airplane being created also had an affect on railroad companies since they wouldn't be used to deliver things anymore.

Credit is Taking Over The Economy

Advertisements during the 20's were used much more to catch the attention of consumers and sell more products. And with companies/businesses expanding because of the increase in products selling, there were many mergers. The mergers were mainly of automobile companies, steel, and electrical equipment, but also of companies that provided public utilities. Gasoline had been the main part of the economic boom in 1920, but electricity and it's many uses had also changed how people in the world lived. The development of the alternating electrical current made it possible for not only businesses in the city able to use it, but families in the suburbs were now able to use electricity. By having electricity in the suburbs it made living much more easier with all the different appliances they could have.

Is The Tax Policy on Imported Things For Better or Worse?

After WWI was over their was many issues rising with arms control, war debts, and reconstructing the countries that were caught in the crossfire. When Britain and France had to pay back the $10 billion they borrowed more conflicts had arisen. There were different ways for them to pay back America, they could either collect reparations from Germany or sell goods to them. In 1922 the U.S. adopted the Fordney-McCumber Tariff, this raised taxes on imported goods by 60%. The tariff was also put in place to help protect businesses in the U.S. from foreign competitors, but it made it harder for Britain and France to pay back the U.S. When they heard of the tax the two countries turned to Germany, who was experiencing inflation, and when Germany failed to make payments french troops had marched into the country. The Dawes Plan was created to help Germany in paying back Britain and France, american investors had loaned Germany $2.5 billion to pay back both Britain and France with annual payments on a fixed scale. There were many issues with the Harding presidency but the friends of the president had damaged his administration immensely with the Teapot Dome Scandal. This scandal was the biggest example of corruption, the government had set aside oil-rich landsat Teapot Domes, Wyoming and Elk Hills, California. They did this for the U.S. Navy Secretary of the Interior Albert B. Fall to use. While Fall used the land he leased it out to private oil companies, he claimed they were in the governments interests but he had earned $400,000 in loans, bonds and cash. He was later found guilty of bribery, this was the first American to be blamed with a felony with a cabinet post.

The Installment Plan and Businesses in the World Not Doing So Well.

The installment plan was what gave people the opportunity to buy goods over an extended period of time without having to put down a lot of money at one time. Banks would provide people with the money at low interest rates. Business owners started to believe that the purchases people were making with installment money was getting out of hand and started to show a sign of fundamental weaknesses. Farmers during the 20's weren't making much money and they suffered a big loss with all the new machines that were coming to light that produced food. Along with farmers, the railroad and iron industries were suffering from business with new inventions and new metals like steel becoming more popular.
