I fell in love with Indiana University's campus right away when I first arrived Bloomington. There I spent six years of grad school and, when I graduated, I transformed from a curious Chinese young woman who knows little about the US except those stories from Hollywood movies, to a transnational academic with a supportive partner and a lovely young child. I did feel safe when I was at IU, but now in retrospect, I know IU is not a safe haven as I imagined. Violence against the People of Color, anti-semitism, and other forms of violence do take place on campus and right off the campus. I had supportive advisors and mentors who made me feel safe. I lived in a bubble within a bubble.
