John

Hi everyone,

My name is John, and recently, I have read about the harmful effects of excessive streaming on teenagers lately. I genuinely believe that this is a problem that needs to be addressed urgently. studies have shown that excessive streaming can indeed lead to a range of negative consequences.

Firstly, there's the issue of sleep. When teenagers binge-watch shows late into the night (usually Fridays), it can seriously disrupt their sleep patterns. Lack of sleep can lead to problems like irritability, decreased concentration, and even lower academic performance. It is not always a matter of better time management; sometimes, the allure of binge-watching can be overwhelming.

Furthermore, the issue extends beyond time management. Excessive streaming can also lead to social isolation. When kids spend all their free time in front of screens, they're missing out on real-world social interactions and the opportunity to build genuine friendships. This can affect their social development and well-being.

To address these concerns, we need to encourage a healthy balance. Parents and guardians should set reasonable limits on screen time, promote engagement in other activities like sports and hobbies, and engage in open conversations about the content their teenagers are watching. It is about finding a middle ground where streaming remains a form of entertainment but not at the expense of their overall well-being.

In conclusion, it is crucial to ensure that streaming remains a form of entertainment rather than becoming a harmful addiction that negatively impacts teenagers' physical and social lives.

Helen

"Hello everyone,

my name is helen and I would like to share my views on streaming.I understand John's concerns about excessive streaming among teenagers, but I believe there are other points to consider.

Firstly, regarding sleep patterns, I agree that binge-watching late into the night can disrupt sleep. However, it's not a one-size-fits-all situation. Many teenagers, including myself, can manage our time effectively, ensuring we get enough sleep and still enjoy streaming as a form of entertainment.

As for social isolation, I don't think streaming necessarily leads to it. Personally, I've used streaming platforms to connect with friends. We watch shows or play games together online, which actually enhances our social interactions. It's not just about the screens; it's about how we use them.

I agree with John's point about encouraging a healthy balance. Parents and guardians should certainly guide us in setting limits on screen time and promoting other activities. But it's also about trusting us to make responsible choices. Streaming can be a valuable source of learning and entertainment (youtube, is great for revising) when used responsibly, and it doesn't have to be an addictive behaviour.

In conclusion, while John's concerns are valid, it's important to acknowledge that responsible streaming habits can coexist with other activities in a teenager's life. It's all about finding that balance and making informed choices.

Oliver Hills' response to John and Helen.

Hello everyone,

My name is Oliver, Oliver hills, and today i shall be giving my response to John and Helen's thoughts on streaming as best I can (since this was hard for me to write), I have quite a few things to say about both of these.

So for starters i support John's idea of people staying awake at night while watching Netflix is bad for their health, mainly their eyes and sleep. Teenagers need their sleep in order to wake up fresh in the morning and get to work, so them constantly watching Netflix at night time is a bad idea.

However on the other hand I also support Helen's speech about this situation. Because John states how parents should stop their children from watching Netflix during the night. but Helen says that the teenagers themselves should also know better than to just stupidly get up and watch Netflix or anything else during the night.

It isn't always our parents' jobs to ensure we're asleep, we got to take responsibility for our actions and do the right thing.

I have my own opinion on these, I honestly agree that Netflix is bad for us and should be banned from use. Especially at night time, just to make sure people get to sleep and awake on time.

If we don't get any sleep, we won't be able to function properly during the day and get any work or anything in general done, so in all honestly I agree with both John and Helen equally for their given points.

Do you all seriously think you're going to be successful in the future if you're just slacking off all the time because of some silly and addicting company?, obviously not. -_-

Signed: Oliver Hills

Sometimes I have stayed up late onto the next day because I was watching something. This issue needs to be fixed because often you’ll end up tired when waking up due to the lack of sleep from the late hours. This can affect a lot of things like how efficiently you work and your mental health.

Additionally, I agree with Helen’s point of streaming can help you connect with friends and others alike. Personally, I have spoken about shows my friends should watch, such as The Boys, Stranger Things and Invincible; to shows we both enjoy or hate. What shows do you talk about with your friends? As of 2023, There have been 1.8 billion active subscriptions to streaming, that is a lot of people to potentially talk to about your favourite show or movie.

Overall, I think there are more positives to streaming than negatives, although if not properly managed it can lead to late nights and improper sleep, it’s also not just streaming that has that issue, you can get caught up late doing anything.

From experiencing this myself i will have to agree with this, on Fridays and Saturday i would stay up till a very late time where i would be watching anime or playing then on Sunday i would struggle to sleep.

My opinion on Helen is that part where she said that streaming could also be a social activity. When i am at home with my girlfriend i would stream my YouTube watch later list and watch what's inside of it with her, it brings up together.

Now my overall opinion is that streaming can be a fun, joyful social experience, or a nice fun solo experience.

This also relates to myself as a young person I watch Twitch at night and it affects my sleeping pattern, I usually get back home around 5 in the afternoon and I spend my time watching a stream like maybe like 7 hours or more. Even though I am excuses I still stay up to watch my favourite streamer to see the drama.

Secondly, I agree with Helen streaming you can connect with friends, I have made friends through streaming on PS 4 we play games together and we communicate about video games and life. It is very easy to talk to friends online you don't need to waste money on going out. Furthermore you can make an income in streaming.

In my opinion overall think streaming has more positive than negative, since streaming has become big more crime rates have gone down. And I have used streaming to market my product I have gained thousands of pounds over the month.

used

Maria

Hello everyone,

My name is Maria and I would like to talk about what I think about John and Helen's opinion, I will even give my point of view if I agree or disagree.

I understand what John means about the excess of stress among people but it is more common among adolescents and children but we must also see the positive points.

Firstly, I agree with John since it is true that staying up so many hours at night can disturb sleep since the brain does not rest, but it is not the only situation that disturbs everyone. Some teenagers do not have the will to leave a technological device behind to be able to do their home or even school activities such as homework and it is something that for some young people they do not have the will to leave the phone aside and go do something else.

Secondly, I agree with Helen on her opinion on making friends. I think that streaming serves to distract teenagers It's even something entertaining that you can watch with friends or with family and pass a good time with laughter, nowadays social networks serve more to communicate and around 80% of the people use streaming platform or others like TV or YouTube

In conclusion, I think that our parents should teach us to control the limits and divide our time from childhood; parents should teach them that when they are teenagers it will not be a problem, there are still teenagers who can limit their times little by little, but they can also see technology as a means of learning since they can learn many things by watching videos or they can find information necessary to learn.

Because I can become unpleasant towards the people around me at school or at home , for example : answering badly, shouting all the time , This might affects my reasoning and might affect my grades.

Secondly, I also agree with Helen's opinion that streaming platforms are a good way to connect with friends. Do you think that without streaming people would be able to make friends due to social isolation?

Yes, because if people are stuck at home, they don't have the possibility to go out, it's a good idea to make friends on social networks and to be connected with people from around the whole through social networks (TikTok, Facebook and Twitter) I have made 10 000 friends on Tiktok using the streaming plate form.

In conclusion, I think that in these , parents must take responsibility in managing their children's time.schedules, times for other activities.

I agree with John Teenagers bing-watching into the Late night can make them mess up their sleep pattern.

Things that have experience in the same situation is that Show getting into a show late

In the night Which you really

want to watch it can attract

you into not want you to stop watching the movie or show.

I also agree with Helen is well is because Parents and guardians should take there's kids mobile So they can sleep better and to get more sleep so there can

wake up in the morning feeling good about them self.

my experience dealing with this is let my mum just take my phone because when my mum take’s My Phone away i can get more steep and Make me not want to go on TikTok or on to Snapchat to talk to my Friends about anything , some facts that I have searched up is that,The National Sleep Foundation recommends that children ages five to 12 get 10 -11 hours of sleep a night. (Teenagers need about 9 hours, but studies suggest only 15% of them get it.) and students that don’t get perfect sleep are 73%. And the students that stay on the phone It found that only 30 percent of students sleep at least eight hours a night - the average requirement for young adults. On weeknights, 20 percent of students stay up all night at least once a month and 35 percent stay up until 3 a.m. at least once a week.

Me personally when I watch shows i'm not isolated I have company around me sometimes .

However I also disagree with Helen when she says "As for social isolation it doesn't lead to it". It can be because when i'm watching shows i'm in my room isolated but to avoid this take breaks.

In conclusion, i think streaming can have a positive effect because you can learn and be social. However it can be negative because of the dangers due to interacting with people you don't know

Hi everyone I am shabana and I want to talk about advantage and disadvantages of Netflix.

Firstly, I am agree with John that he says the when teenagers binge watching movies late into night this is seriously distract them from sleep. when know that people especially teenager who stream content at bedtime take longer to fall asleep and the quality of their sleep is reduced then they can't wake up in the morning to go to school. if they didn't sleep well at night this also affects their mental health.

Secondly, Helen says that streaming can help you connect with friends and others I am agree with that because I am watch shows with my friends sometimes and we can play game together online even she living from me like one of the game Ludo that we can play online with our friends we can speak on microphone as well which is really good and I like it. Around 7.4K people are płay Ludo game.

At the one point that Helen says that teenagers can manage their time which is I am not agree with that because nowadays the best fun for teenagers is using phone and watching movie or something else but they are so much busy in their phone even some of them busy on the phone during the eating so how they can manage their time?

In conclusion I have to say streaming and watching Netflix is good some people can learn something but the best thing we have to do to manage our time and do not wąsate all our on Netflix and watching.

Hi everyone

My name is Kieran and today I am talking about my views on streaming. Both John and Helen have made solid and valid points but i would like to contribute by sharing my views on streaming.

I agree with John when he said streaming can damage teenagers sleep patterns as this has happened to me, during GCSE exams i would often stay up late due to stress and also due to watching a new series on Netflix and I would find myself watching a new episode and it would be close to 1-2 o'clock in the morning. One of the main reasons as to why teenagers stay up late watching Netflix or other streaming services is because it is relaxing and enjoyable.

I also agree with what Helen says when she says that online gaming is good and it helps with connecting friends. This has happened to me many times when I get in from college and i end up playing online games with my friends sometimes until the early hours of the morning. This has helped me become closer with my friends as we end up playing for so long and having so much fun.

I would say that both John and Helen use negatives but they also use positives. I would say that there are both ups and downs of streaming services such as Netflix and Disney plus. Some of the negatives that they have included it can destroy sleep patterns. I would say that John has used more negatives than positives whereas, Helen has used more positives.

Overall 73% of teenagers have said that streaming benefits them. Does it benefit you?

I understand and I agree with John that we need to encourage a healthy balance. I belive that all teenagers needs to have some limits with screens.

Firstly, There's some issues to be on the screens to many times. Personally in my home I have some rules, example: hang out my phone at 9pm or can not have on my phone when I'm eating. I'v learned that when i spend to many times on my phone, I get distracted more easily and make me not focus in what I have to do.

Additionally, I understand what Helen said. Streaming can be a valuable source of learning. At least 20% of schools in the world use streaming in their lessons. Teachers have changed their way to give homework. In the way I see, do things online, watch lessons from home is being helpfull.

Furthermore, Screen can have positive things that can really help but also have their negatives. Does the internet really interrupt our minds?

Hello everyone,

My name is Megan, I want to express my opinions on Today's topic. I believe that there is an issue with streaming.

Firstly, I agree with johns point about the issue with sleep as 80.6% identified themselves as a binge watcher, around 32.6% have poor sleep quality associated with binge watching. This is not a good habit to have as this can have an impact on your brain functioning to remember certain stuff, regulate emotion and attention and even have an impact on your ability to be able to go outside and communicate with other people.

Additionally, I agree with Helen's point of being able to connect with friends and family by being able to watch shows/movies without even being together in the same room. Personally, This for me is a great way to be able to stay connected to friends and family even if I don't live near them. As of 2023, There have been around 1.8 billion active subscriptions to screaming services.

Overall, i think there are lots of positives to streaming then negatives, although there are a few negatives that if not handled with could lead to a harmful addiction to steaming and you should set time where you don't watch any online shows/ movies and take sometime into the real world outside.

Amari

Hello everyone,

I am here today to give my opinion on streaming. Yesterday I read a discussion online between two people about their opinions on streaming. Thought that I could add my own ideas about the topic.

Starting with why young people love streaming so much; I feel that it may cause problems in their education, socially and their work life. As I have read from John " When teenagers binge-watch shows late into the night, it seriously disrupts their sleep patterns." Meaning that they will most likely not focus when in lessons or unable to interact with friends or family. From my personal experience it can leave you quite "cranky", and easy to upset in most cases. would you want this to happen to yourself?

On the Other hand there are people (such as Helen) who say that streaming can be a great way of connecting with others through a common interest. You could be talking about the latest episodes of a new series or have a conversation about your favourite part of a movie. It sounds all well and good but I feel that can cause more of a problem than something positive. A person may be left out of a conversation; leading them to streaming late into the night and causing them to lose 3-6 hours of sleep each day, which could make them end up missing important events.

In the end streaming is just too much of a problem for me and others. People losing multiple hours of sleep, entering work or school feeling both sluggish and adjudicated.

I hope this gave you a better idea of why steaming is bad and what effect it can have cause to you or other people.

This is a issue because it means im gonna be tried the next day and it could also affect some peoples mental health.

I also agree with Helen that streaming is great way to make friends online by bonding over things you enjoy such as gaming and other things i personally i have made a tune of friends through gaming such with NBA 2K that i still play with to this day. so have so have you made friends online through the things you enjoy?

So overall I think streaming platforms are a great thing as people can chat and bond over the things they enjoy. Streaming platforms such as Twitch bring in hundreds of millions of people to streams with tons of categories from gaming to IRL there is something for everyone to enjoy and that the positives out way the negatives.

Even though you are tired it can keep you awake and mess around with your sleep pattern, making you drained, tired and exhausted. Furthermore, this have an impact on your education. Also, I agree with what John says about being socially isolated when you spend all your free time in front of screens and missing out on more productive activities.

Secondly i agree with Helen's statement on how you can manage time effectively so you can get enough sleep and still do the things you enjoy so having a routine will help you manage you time more efficient. Also i agree with what Helen said about watching shows and playing games doesn't always lead to social isolation and it can bring people together because you can meet people online there millions off people online which be a huge opportunity to make new friends while gaming playing the games you love to play.

Overall I think John and Helen make valid points on streaming and there's no right or wrong way about it its more on the readers point of view and there opinion on the dicussion of topic.

As well scream time was over 18 h or even more.

Secondly I also agree what Helen say about that we do make friend online and that you can chat to your friend at anytime online on Instagram or Snapchat witch you can reach them out at any time.

Although I disagree about making friends online, it can also make you go through bulling or getting catfish which is very likely for it to happen. It is reported that 65% of people have gone through it.

Do you think streaming affects your sleep?

I think it does affect a lot on your sleep you can stay up all night with out you even knowing and you would not sleep as well as some teenager pull a all righter .

Is streaming affected to metal -health?

I think it does because you are looking at a screen over and over and if you get bullied online will make it worse and can defo make your mental health get worse.

Over all there is more negatives then posotives.

Hi everyone.

My name is Denys. Today I want to discuss streaming. There are some positive sides, and negative sides of streaming, and I'd like to give my overall opinion. So let's begin!

Firstly I want to speak about negative side of streaming. I agree with John about his opinion that streaming causes the issue of sleep, that links to tiredness. As a teenager I know that a lot of teenagers like to watch their favourite series or streaming into the early hours in the morning. It can cause tiredness, illness and bad behaviour.

In my experience, I have watched Youtube channels on weekend until early hours in the morning (sometime up to 4 am). However, I'm responsible because I do that only on holidays; I know I will not go anywhere, and can sleep.

Secondly, I agree with Helen's point that steaming you can make new friends in social media. 5 billion use social media a day, where they communicate. Social media give opportunities to make a lot of friends. I deem that it is good, because you are not in social isolation, in any case you have got the friends; you can play with them, watch something, and just speak.

Personally, when I came to the UK I only had friends in my country(Ukraine), and I communicated with them by using social media(I'm still doing that), I play games with them, watch something, and just speak. This helped me to feel more confident, and make new friends. Imagine how you would feel moving to a new country with no friends?

My overall opinion on streaming is that this has positives and negatives; you need to be self disciplined. If you are young (under 12 years old) your parents have to manage your social medias time, but if you are older, you have to manage your time by yourself, and do not spend on it more that 4 hours a day.

In the Future streaming is going to expand and will be used by more teenagers. With more advancements in technology like AI, Chat GP, technology could take over our lives!

Hi everyone,

My name is Stefan, and i have recently read about streaming and how it can affect people's sleeps and negatively effect their lifetime.

Firstly, streaming has the effect of sleep and a lifetime that can be caused by streaming. Teenagers and adults sometimes have a serious lack of sleep and less social communication. Each time people keep streaming at home will affect their brain and your concentration. What will streaming affect in the future? The effect that can aim for head ed aches and also your body, that wont function that much.

I also agree with John, that streaming with friends and having fun everyday 5 times a week. However, it can also affect your friends that can anxiety, head aches, brain concentration. 75% of people that are streaming on Netflix or websites every night and their body becomes weakened but streaming with strangers can be great because you can communicate what streaming that they watch.

Secondly I also agree with Helen that less streaming is good and that it can be more useful for your lifetime with friends [Whats app, Instagram] that won't cause staying up all night streaming.

Overall I think that streaming is still negative around the world and popular it has become with so much shows and movies to watch.

Hi everyone,

My name is David, and I would like to share my opinions on this topic.

Firstly, I agree with John because one of the negatives that he said is that streaming can seriously disrupt your sleeping pattern.

Which can affect their social development and well being and that they can miss out on real world social interactions which would make them miss out on their chance to build a genuine friendship. In the past I have experienced staying up at night watching different movies and TV shows on websites like ( Prime video, Netflix and Sky) which affected my health as well as gone so far to disrupt my sleeping patterns.

Secondly, I also agree with Helen because one of the positives she said is that you can make friends online and that you can contact friends online as well. Streaming, is not that bad as it is possible for us to keep contact with our friends on different online streaming platforms like (twitter, whats-app snap-chat and discord) where we can discuss different things like what we have seen online we can also talk about different games and play with each other which would help to enhance our social interactions as it is not all just about the screens but how we use them. In the past, I have also made many friends and kept in contact online with my real life friends and it has helped me enhance a better understanding of the word "friendship" and to also make my friendship bigger with others that I can feel like we have gone through the same feeling in life and we can also play games, chat which would allow us to get to know each other better and to also discuss things that we might find hard to handle but might be able to speak about each other.

However, I find that Helen and John are both correct about some of the points like the ones that I talked about. But I can also agree that we require things like (social media, streaming websites and technology) in our lives but we need to be able to manage ourselves with them and not to be addicted to it but to rely on ourselves and not the screens that we use.

Hi everyone

My name is Calum and i'm going to be talking about my opinions of John and Helens conversation about late night streaming.

First things first I want to say that I agree with John. He has said that late night calls/texting, streaming online with friends and even watching movies/series late at night has a very big impact on sleep and the next morning. I think this because the next morning you might not be able to think straight and very easily forget things.

Secondly, I think that Helen has a very good point. Helen has spoken about it benefiting social interaction with friends/family. The reason why I agree is because some people work very hard like starting at eight in the morning and finishing at about six in the evening. By the time you've finished dinner and chores around the house it will be late by the time you join your mates online /a call or much more. However social interaction is important regardless of the time so maybe staying up late and missing your sleep can be a good thing to.

In my opinion I think staying up late to watch movies/series has many benefits for you. Staying up late losing you sleep may seem like a bad thing to lots of people but i think it doesn't matter as long as you get to do something you enjoy. However, I do think staying up late the night before school/college/work can be bad for you in the morning because you forget things very easily and are less able to think straight.

In conclusion I think overall there's more negatives than positives in these paragraphs. Everything John says is negative about lack of sleep where Helen disagrees and thinks it benefits social interaction with friends.

For example I stay up all night until 5am watching Netflix and I wake up tired for school. Lack of sleep can cause sleep deprivation for the nation, depression and anxiety.

Secondly I agree with Helen when she says that streaming can help you gain friendship online which is a form of communication for the nation such as Playstation and X-Box. I've made millions of friends while streaming so Helen does have a point.

In my opinion for the minion, streaming has a lot of benefits for young people especially the young people with social anxiety it helps you build friendships online while enjoying the game. Furthermore, you can also make money from streaming for or example MrBeast. MrBeast is worth 500 million just for streaming and making content on Youtube.

Hi everyone,

My name is Cameron I want to share my opinions on this topic of streaming.

Firstly, I agree with John that there is an issue of sleep, many people including me have stayed up binge watching shows like the last super bowl which started at 11:00 and finished at 3:00 in the morning but the worst thing about it is that i stayed up till 7:00 am watching more Netflix shows. This issue needs to be fixed because as 40% of scientist have proven that staying up late can cause a lack of concentration.

Secondly, I agree about Helen's point about that isolation so it wont affect your social life becuse some of your favourite shows you can talk to your friends about and can watch together but it will help you make more friends. But I have a personal experiance like where I work when the superbowl (Kansas City Chiefs vs PhIlidelfia Eagles was we got snacks and put on the game on a big tv and it made us closer together like family.

In conclusion streaming services do have a effect on sleep and so much more but if you can control how much you watch there is no problem with addiction to streaming services.

Hello my name is Isabela and I am going talk about John and Helena opinion of impacts of streaming.

Firstly, I agree with John's opinion because streaming could affect people (especially teenagers) most of them waste time and night of sleep watching streaming, they also have social isolation, they missing out the real- world and the opportunity to do new friendships. For example if i stay up the all night watching netflix knowing that i have class the next day, i will wake up later.

However I also agree with Helena's opinion because there are other points to consider, because most people use the streaming plataforms to connect with friends (watching shows or play games), streaming could also help teenagers with leaning and entertamment. For example if the parents/guardians have some limits with streamings and don't exceeding the screen usage limit.

In my opinion i think both is correct at some point, because John is correct to don't agree with kids or teenagers spend all the time on streamings, However Helena is also correct when she said streamings could help people with learning and most people doesn't have any "real friends" ( same city or country) and that will be useful for people.

Hi everyone

My name is Jake, I want to share my opinions on this topic.

Firstly, I agree with john that staying up late does make issues with your sleep patterns cause mostly 75% of teenagers stay up late either playing games or watching films on YouTube ,Netflix and other streaming stuff or both and it ends up disrupting sleep patterns which leads to waking up late then it turns into a cycle of you waking up late and going to sleep late i have a personal experience with this cycle almost always doing summer holiday staying up late and end up missing most of the day and end up staying up late cause i was not tired enough to go asleep.
