Traditional clothing worn all over Türkiye is an important part of our cultural heritage that has been shaped over centuries. With its colors, patterns and embroidery, each region reflects its lifestyle, beliefs and history on its clothes. Local folk clothing is not just a style of clothing, but also a vivid reflection of our identity and past.

🧿 Anatolian Fairytale Heroes: The Voice of Imagination and the People

In folk tales collected from all over Türkiye, countless heroes come to life, from Keloğlan to Nasreddin Hodja, from Tepegöz to Bey Böyrek. These characters reflect the intelligence, humor, courage and life values ​​of the people. Each one is a cultural treasure passed down from the past to the present.

During the Ottoman period, clothing reflected both social class and regional differences. While the palace elite preferred garments like the entari, kaftan, and fez, villagers wore simpler clothing made of basic fabrics, such as şalvar, cepken (short jacket), and üç etek (a traditional skirted outfit). Each region developed its own style based on local climate and customs; for example, in the Black Sea region, mintan (shirt) and çakşır (trousers) were common, while in Eastern Anatolia, felt coats were widely used.

Although Western-style clothing became more common after the founding of the Republic, traditional outfits are still worn during folk dances and special ceremonies. Today, garments such as embroidered bindallı dresses, şalvar trousers, and vests remain valuable cultural symbols, especially at weddings and folkloric performances.

History:

Lahmacun originates from the Middle Eastern cuisine, especially from cities like Damascus and Aleppo. Over time, it became very popular in the southeastern region of Turkey—particularly in Gaziantep, Urfa, and Diyarbakır—and is now considered a staple of Turkish cuisine.

Ingredients:

• Dough: Made with yeast, rolled out thin and round.

• Topping (filling): A mixture of ground beef or lamb, tomato paste, tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, parsley, and spices (such as black pepper, red pepper flakes, and cumin).

Cooking Method:

It is baked in a stone oven at high temperatures for a short time. This method gives the crust a crispy texture and allows the flavors of the topping to blend into the dough.

Serving:

Lahmacun is usually served with lemon, parsley, arugula, tomatoes, and onions. It is commonly rolled up and eaten like a wrap.

Nutritional Value:

Lahmacun offers a balanced combination of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber. However, portion control is important since it can be high in calories.

History:

Baklava traces its origins to Central Asia and the Middle East. It was refined in the kitchens of the Ottoman Empire and eventually spread throughout Anatolia. Today, it is popular not only in Turkey but also across the Balkans, the Middle East, and the Caucasus.

Ingredients:

• Dough: Very thin sheets of phyllo pastry.

• Filling: Typically made with walnuts, pistachios (especially Antep pistachios), or almonds.

• Top layer: Covered with melted butter.

• Syrup: A thick syrup made from sugar and water is poured over the dessert after baking.

Cooking Method:

The layers of pastry and nuts are arranged, then cut into portions before baking. Melted butter is added on top, and it is baked until golden brown. Once out of the oven, hot syrup is poured over it.

Serving:

Baklava is traditionally served during special occasions, religious holidays, and celebrations. It can be enjoyed warm or cold.

It is high in energy and calories. Due to its high sugar and fat content, it should be consumed in moderation. However, it also contains some protein and fiber from the nuts.

• Headgear: A scarf (poşu) or embroidered fez.

• Top: A colorful vest and a loose shirt.

• Waist: A wide sash or belt is wrapped around.

• Bottom: Baggy trousers (şalvar).

• Footwear: Traditional boots or leather shoes (yemeni).

The Zeybek costume is typically worn during Zeybek folk dances. The stance of the dancer is proud and noble, representing heroism and courage in Turkish culture.

Dede Korkut, Oğuz Türkleri'nin destansı hikâyelerinde yer alan bilge bir halk kahramanıdır. Hikâyeleri 9.–11. yüzyıllar arasında şekillenmiştir. Hem anlatıcı hem de ozan olarak, halkı bir araya getiren, öğütler veren, kültürel değerleri aktaran bir figürdür. "Dede Korkut Hikâyeleri", Türk edebiyatının en önemli sözlü destanlarındandır.

2. Nasrettin Hoca

Nasrettin Hoca, 13. yüzyılda yaşamış, Eskişehir–Konya civarında etkili olmuş, fıkralarıyla bilinen Türk halk filozofudur. Güldürürken düşündürür; mizahla birlikte ders verir. Hikâyelerinde günlük hayat, insan ilişkileri ve toplumsal eleştiriler konu edilir.

3. Karagöz ve Hacivat

Karagöz ve Hacivat, Osmanlı dönemine ait geleneksel Türk gölge oyunlarının baş karakterleridir. Karagöz, halkı temsil ederken; Hacivat, eğitimli, söz sanatlarını kullanan karakterdir. İkili arasındaki komik diyaloglar, toplumun farklı kesimlerini yansıtır ve mizahi bir dille eleştirir. Ramazan aylarında özellikle oynatılırdı.
