So, they wanted to share with educators how their brain works and offer simple ways teachers can help."

Jhislaine Nussey This diagram shows integration as part of how inclusion is created. Thinking about our definition, it is very hard for some kids to “fit in” with pre-exisiting environment. Integration after school, into society may be an end goal to inclusion. While in school full inclusion can help do that. This image and some of the other images have made me think about this.

Pavri, Shireen & Liftig Richard. The Social Face of Inclusive Education: Are Students with Learning Disabilities Really Included in the classroom? LD Online, 2000.
Jhislaine Nussey
I came across an older article talking about the social implications of students with disabilities in inclusive classrooms being lonelier than their non- disabled counterparts. What struck me was the findings at the end of the article

"...it appears that merely placing students with disabilities in inclusive classrooms is not sufficient to allow for their social inclusion, and other supports need to be in place to facilitate their acceptance by and belonging to the peer group. One type of support needed for acceptance of students with disabilities in inclusive classrooms is teacher support (Chow, 1999). Research evidence indicates that teachers' attitudes toward students with disabilities in inclusive classrooms are the most powerful factors in these students being accepted by peers, reporting less loneliness, and maintaining their self-esteem (Campbell, Dodson, & Bost, 1985; Luftig, 1985). Some general education teachers have been found to be anxious about or even resistant to having students with disabilities placed in their classes (Fiedler & Simpson, 1987; Gerstein & Luftig, 1998).

This is an older article and I believe teachers have come l long way in being less anxious and working together to help students feel included in the classroom.
