My Library Club is always thinking of ways to engage students in reading. One way, that we help students laugh every day is with the morning announcements. A "Joke of the Day" is read by the senior class president. He selects a joke from a joke book that stays in the office.

Teachers also enjoy the "Joke of the Day." And, I'm also the yearbook adviser. One of our teachers dressed up as a pig in a blanket for our Spanish Club's yearly Halloween contest. This teacher wanted this picture in the yearbook, so I put it in with the other staff members on the faculty page. When the book comes out next year, I'm sure that page will generate much laughter. I also post humorous snippets on the TV in the library and in the teacher's lounge.

I'm interested in hearing how others help their administrators and tech coordinators laugh. For me, at least, this is a challenge...because my admins and tech coordinator...rarely smile. They're way too serious!

At our elementary, instead of a Right-to-Read Week, we're having a "March Madness" Right-to-Read MONTH. There are sooo many activities going on. This morning, a therapy dog will be visiting the classes in the library. I'll be at the high school when this takes place, but I'm sure there will be many smiles and sounds of laughter when the kids see this dog.

I'm sure there was much laughter when the elementary students visited the Bookmobile when it came to elementary as part of our March Madness Right-to-Read Month activities last week.

Many years ago, I started tracing and then coloring in storybook characters on my ceiling tiles. I usually do two or three a year. My students love trying to pick out the newest panel from the almost 50 that are up there already. They have so much fun looking at all of them and giving me ideas of what the next one should be! Lots of laughs ensue as they use their imaginations to try to come up with an idea. Some are pretty crazy (Tom Holland? I guess he's the newest hearthrob?) Hahaha

I don't know about laugh, but at least smile. last month I displayed 100 books with blue covers and added a sign saying, "Hey Mrs. Angelo, do you have that book I saw on Amazon, the one with the blue cover?"
