At first I was going to paint the actual pages of the book with acrylic paint. After looking through the pages, I liked the colors and details in the pictures. They were all in the same theme, as the book was about The Statue of Liberty. The colors matched well together, so I decided to make a big collage in the book. I also took a different booth filled with maps and old looking pages. After finishing my big base book, It looked plain and felt as if it was missing an element. I luckily had other pictures that I felt would match together in a separate book. These pictures had brighter blues, yellows, and prominent colors. I put these colors in a smaller book. I cut up chapter headers and used them as a binder to tie the pictures together. Also in the base book, I cut two chapter headers to put in the corners to tie the pieces together subtlety. I decided that I want to have the smaller book having over the big book. After looking at my idea, I noticed that the smaller book had a bright yellow cover which did not match the opening pages of the big book at all. I wanted the books to fade together and seem natural. I painted each half of the cover based on the picture that would be under it. I included clouds and similar colorings. In this art class, I was pushed to be creative and come up with my own ideas. My creativity expanded. I also got to work with new materials like acrylic and oil paints. Shading also improved for me, as I found techniques that work for me. When we were drawing faces, is struggled with a mental block. I was used to thinking about what a face looked like. I would replace a face with what I thought was a reality. the head is supposed to be bigger than the head. I also struggled at first with getting out of my comfort zone. I earned to draw what I saw, now what I thought I saw. Working with new materials helped me learn and adapt to them. I don’t think I with use art as a future career but I will defiantly do it in my free time. Art is everywhere. I would like to try larger paintings. I would also want to work with more paint again.
