The creation of the Internet can't be credited to one person. The first person to get an idea about a "Wireless World System" was Nikola Tesla, In the early 1900's. Other thinkers, such as Paul Otlet and Vannevar Bush, had ideas about a mechanized device to search up information in the 1930's. Although many people had ideas about the Internet, the first person to "build a blueprint" was MIT professor J.C.R. Licklider. J.C.R. popularized the idea of his "Intergalactic Network". He proposed the idea to MIT and shortly after, computer scientists developed the concept concept of "Packet Switching" which would become one of the major building blocks of the Internet.
The first prototype of the internet was made in the late 1960's. It was called ARPANET which stood for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. It was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and it allowed multiple computers to use the same network. Research continued as computer scientists all over the United States worked to enhance this. It kept growing until the 1970's when Robert Khan and Vinton Cerf created the TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol or Internet Protocol). The TCP/IP let multiple computers to share data, enabling military officials share plans with each other. Scientists continued on their search for what they called "The Networks of Networks" which is what we use in modern day. In 1990, Computer Scientist Tim Berners-Lee created what we know as the world wide web. While the world wide web often gets confused with the Internet itself, the world wide web is the main tool for people to use the internet.
