Teachers can support their students by building rapport and being aware of what a students "normal" behavior is so they can notice if they are having an off day. I think back to 1st grade when my teacher really supported me. I would cry in the bathroom every day and she went above and beyond to work with me and the guidance office to get me feeling more comfortable.

I would address the student's concern independently, meaning not in front of the whole class. Additionally, I would keep an open mind and calm tone of voice because you never know what they may be going through at home. The tone of your voice is especially important because you do not want them to think you are mad or angry at the way they are behaving. Overall, I want to create a calm, welcoming environment.

One teacher asked me to stay after class and told me not to worry about any due dates for the time being, and another teacher didn't provide me that support and just asked me for my homework the day I came back to school.

If I notice any behavior changes, I can sit with that student and discuss how we can make things better. My high school teacher/ coach was my biggest supporter. She was always there for me and helped me when I had a problem which allowed us to built a strong connection. I want to be this for my students one day.

I want to make sure that all my students are comfortable with talking to me because I will always be opened minded/respectful towards them. I actually was not supported in one of my college classes, it did really get to me. At first, I let it get to me too much where there was a point I was failing, but then I realized if I failed I would let this person win. So I ended up passing the class with an A. After that, I told myself I would do well my senior year, and I have not failed one thing yet this semester
