Summary

The fourth labor was about Hercules killing a monster boar and to bring it to Erymanthian. So along Hercules journey he went to go visit his centaur friend Pholus and Pholus gave Hercules food and when Hercules asked for wine Pholus said that the other centaurs would get mad because that was their wine. So then Hercules still opens the wine jar and the other centaurs smell it and come and attack Hercules and Hercules starts to kill them all and then Hercules vanishes and Pholus grabs an arrow that Hercules killed a centaur with and it slips out of his hand and kills himself and Hercules comes back and sees Pholus dead and buried him. Then Hercules goes to kill the boar and starts chasing it and calling it and then the boar was tired and was in a thicket and then Hercules poked his spear into the thicket and the boar came out and Hercules killed it and took it to Erymanthian.

By reading this story I can infer that the Greek society has very strange animals. In the story of Hercules and the 4th labor Hercules has a centaur friend called pholus and a centaur is a half man half horse its man from the waist up and horse the rest. This explains how there is strange animals and humans in the Greek society.

From reading the 4th labor of Hercules I can infer that the Greek society is pretty fair. The reason I say that the Greek society is pretty fair is because they gave Hercules a chance to do something because he had killed his family. This explains how fair the Greek society is.

Another thing I can infer about the Greek society from reading this story is that if you wanted to make up for your mistakes it was going to cost you a lot. The reason I say this is because when Hercules killed his family he had to do so much to make up for it and they gave him 12 labors and those 12 labors was something that not just anyone could complete but Hercules did. This tells you how difficult it was to make up for things.

One last thing that I can infer about the Greek society is that the people and half humans and animals were kinda in like in there own little groups and crowds. The reason I say that is because when Hercules went to visit Pholus and tried to open the wine, Pholus said that the other centaurs would get mad if they saw someone else drinking the centaurs wine. This explains how people in the Greek society are all like in their own groups.

Characteristics

I think that a characteristic trait for Hercules would be that he’s disobedient. The reason I say that Hercules is disobedient is because in the story it says “When Hercules asked for wine, Pholus said that he was afraid to open the jar wine, because it belonged to all the centaurs in common. But Hercules said not to worry, and opened it himself.” This quote explains that Hercules ignored what Pholus has said ad still opened the wine jar and it caused problems.

Another characteristic for Hercules would be strong. Hercules is strong because in the story when Hercules gets attack by multiple centaurs Hercules attacks back and kills a lot of the centaurs. This explains how like tough and strong Hercules is because if he were someone else I think they’d run and wouldn’t fight back.

One last characteristic for Hercules would be that he is so fearless. A reason I say that Hercules is fearless is because Hercules is not afraid of absolutely nothing is because Hercules killed a monster boar and killed a bunch of centaurs by himself. This shows how Hercules is capable of doing anything because he is not afraid of about nothing that comes his way.
