This evening, I am doing my homework reflection prior to talking to the students at lunch on Tuesday. I plan to do a restorative circle during lunch to see if I can reach a few students. I plan to discuss the rules, and introduce my Panda Bear as the talking piece. All students are expected to participate in the circle. I plan to introduce the a few basic rules, and then work with the students to create rules that they buy into so they can help keep the library calm and peaceful during lunch A& B. Involve students to see what they think in terms of the noise level and gain their trust by talking to them. Ask students how do they show trust. Ask them for examples like what does good behavior look like in the library? What does poor behavior look like in the library? Ask students to help make their library space better for everyone including students who have homework, students who come to read, students who come to play chess, students who come to find a new book to read or to do research. Students who come to quietly social with their friends. Students who come to do Art projects. Students who come to to use the Wellness Center. Establish ground rules. Ask for their assistance--no profanity, no interrupting each other, no negative comments, a student can disagree, but in a way that states his or her position, but honors the other person who has a different opinion. It is okay not to agree, but be respectful of each other's opinions. Collaboration and communication are important to make the library space better for all. Student should have fun and ask questions if they don't understand something in the process. For example, only one person is talking at a time. The person with the talking piece is the only one doing the talking. By the way, my talking piece is a cuddly Black and White Panda Bear for the students to pass around as they have their turn talking. Finally, have fun and hopefully we will get a quieter library during Lunch A & B. Barbara

My goal for this TLC is to learn how to guide my students to become self-inquirers.
