you say that society and the government should censor whatever they choose, what happens if society no longer has a say in this?

Answer: If society no longer has a say on what is censored, the government will continue to censor information that could be offensive to some individuals. The government has an extremely large sum of power, and they will go out of their way to avoid information that contradicts their ideas of our country.

Does censorship influence ideas in a society?

Answer: Censorship plays a part in how fast information is spread. With no boundaries and limits, opinions and information would spread rapidly. With censorship, certain ideas may be hidden in the shadows and harder to access. The use of censorship depends on what is deemed inappropriate.

Yes, while Twitter attempts to moderate their content, the role of governments enforcing these standing remains an issue

Do you think the government could ignore the wishes of the people and censor anything they view is sensitive despite public protest?

Answer: The government could have the power to override society's wishes. However, the foundation of our government is a democracy that encourages free speech. Our country is unique in that people have the constitutional right to share their respective opinions and I doubt our government would alter that and risk the morals our country holds.

After reviewing the first amendment, do you feel that companies and the U.S. government today is unconstitutional. If so, is this an issue in your eyes?

Answer: I do believe that there are some aspects of the U.S government that are unconstitutional. As mentioned in the discussion, the government purposely censored artwork that was only bringing attention back to segregational acts. If the government continues to push the boundaries involving first amendment rights, then we will slowly start to become an Orwellian society.

What about censorship on the internet (not specifically social media), would there not be a lot more “vulgar” content and information available online?

Answer: It is already seen that an audience can view what is seen as inappropriate content on the internet at any time they want. With censorship in place, however, it would slow the spread of this "vulgar" information. However, it would be nearly impossible to permanently halt the publication and spread of said information.

How can society progress if information is censored? Morgan said if information could be false it should be censored, but how can you verify something as true?

Answer: Verifying a source's credibility can be accomplished in a variety of ways. Checking whether or not the information is derived from an expert on the subject or an organization that specializes in the information published, is a good sign that the information is factual. Society can progress successfully if people are aware of the likelihood that they are consuming misinformation, and to fact-check and dissect the information being fed to them.

You guys talked about how censorship should and should not be used in certain places and how people using different platforms can be affected by this. Where should censorship be used and should not be used in different platforms to provide safety for everyone?

Answer: Censorship with certain information can often get miscommunicated because of the message that the idea is conveying. Some information that is negatively directed towards an audience should be censored because it can hurt people intentionally. For example, slander against a race, culture, or an idea during a protest can cause trauma for future generations. Censorship in films regarding aggressive language should be implemented because it protects the values of the people. On the other hand, ideas regarding informative topics should not be censored in all cases, but the government blurs these ideas because it goes against the country's values.

Information that can cause big reactions to individuals should have restrictions and some censorship aspects to it.

How has technology influenced the use of censorship? Has it strengthened or weakened it?

Answer: Technology has strengthened censorship. With new firewalls put in place and social media platforms controlling what is posted publicly or banned. Technology also opens up a platform for people to share their opinion so many executive organizations feel the need to incorporate censorship more.

You guys mentioned that the government and society have an impact on levels of censorship and where we see it, but do you think the government overrides societal ideas when it comes to censoring more serious ideas such as those that affect the country?

Answer: One could say that our government is more open to ideas than other countries. Our society and government does encourage new ideas but the governments main purpose is to do what's best for our country. If the government deems something as harmful or threatening to our country, it declares the right to solve the issue. The government is bound to face backlash on their decisions but at the end of the day, they are doing what they believe is the best option.

Media literacy is the idea that you are able to access information, take action, and send messages to the public. Through censorship, individuals may not be able to fully express what they are feeling.
