I agree that young people should spend more time with elderly. This is because some of the elderly just keep on staying at home and watch tv all day long. This can every boring. While the elderly are at home watching tv, the adults and children are either at school or at work. So they will be spending the entire day at home alone with no one to talk to. As this goes on, their life will get very boring. So I think that the younger ones should spend more time with them.
Luming

In my opinion, I strongly agree that young people should spend more time with the elderly. We live in a society where there is a high aging population and thus being able to see them around us all the time. Our country has come this far because of the efforts put in by them and we should recognised their hardwork by taking care of them while spending time with them.Besides that, it also helps to closen the generation gap between the elderly and the young people. All they need is just someone who could provide them with a listening ear to listen to their stories and provide them with comfort, resulting them in feeling a sense of security.Recently, I have went to a elderly home for a VIA project. It was a meaningful activity as we could get to really get the time to know more about their past and understand them better, knowing what they do differently from the current generation. This could also be a way where we get to spend time with them.

In my opinion, I strongly agree that young people should spend more time with old people. As Singapore has an ageing population, there would in the future be more old people than young people. I believe we , young people should value the elderly's hardwork to bring us to where we are now, from Singapore being a third world country to a first world country. We would not live such good lives of not for the work of our elders. We in return should repay their hardwork by not leaving then to live a life of solitude or leave them in a nursing home but bring joy to their lives by spending time with them and making them laugh.

Our job does not end by just merely giving them money. It is the thought that counts, we should just put in a little bit more effort and they will be more appreciative of that rather than giving them money. Example of some activities would be like board games and some simple exercises. Board games will enable them to use their brain more for thinking so they will not get amnesia as they are getting older. Simple exercises can help them to build their body and improve their immue system to fight against illness. During this time, everyone can also communicate and chat with one another to build better relation.

It is because I get to spend time to make the elderly staying at the home happier. The elderly there usually live boring lives and play games or simply chatting with them would make them much happier. Seeing the smile on their faces warms my heart. I would get to learn many things from them by simply chatting with them, such as life in the kampongs and life lessons. Playing games with them that requires some brainpower, like Chinese chess would train my mind to think flexibly and make me better at the game. Plus, I would get VIA hours if this is an VIA program. In conclusion, volunteering at an old folk's home is very beneficial and very meaningful .

By the happy and smiling faces of both the students and the old lady, I can see that they enjoy playing board game a lot. This can also help them as they can play these types of games to help them pass the time instead of sitting around all day with no clue what to do. Personally, I know this as I have my grandparents living in a flat, and occasionally I would go to their house to visit them and try to not their day very boring, such as by talking to them about my studies, what we have heard in the news, how they are feeling right now, etc.

Yes, I do find that that the activity in the picture shown is meaningful. In the picture, it shows two students and an elderly woman playing a game together. Judging by the smiles on their faces, I can tell that they are enjoying the activity. From the perspective of the students', it is meaningful as they are able to interact with the pioneer generation - not only through the game, but also through conversations. They would be able to communicate with the elderly and perhaps find out more about them. Furthermore, the students will be able develop communication skills as they are speaking to people whom they have not met before. As time passes, they would definitely overcome their fear of speaking with strangers thus, gaining a new skill.

In the elders' view, the activity would be meaningful as they would have someone to talk to. In most cases, elderly people live at home by themselves with no one to care for them. Hence, they will feel isolated and lonely at home. With this type of activity, the elders will be entertained. In addition, the usage of games like the one shown in the picture enables the elders' minds to be active. With their old age, some could be suffering from dementia. Games will make them think and stimulate the brain. Thus, I believe that activities like this are meaningful.

As shown from the picture , they were happily interacting with the elderly, having no generation gaps. Through this activity, students get to further learn how to relate with people around them and also get to exhibit the value of empathy towards others. The activity above is very similar to the Values in action (VIA) that Is done in school.Students are able to take their minds off studies during the activity and at the same time do a good deed. Most of the time, the elderly has to spend time alone as their children will be working. Thus making it meaningful as elderly would have companions to accompany them that day. Making the activity a meaningful one as both the elderly and the students benefited from it .

the young people might be able to teach the elderly computer application skills. since most teenagers have a phone now and that most teenagers know how to use it, they can teach the skills they learnt to the elderly. since the elderly are from an older generation, most of them might not use a phone. teenagers can teach them how to message their loved ones, make a call to their family members and maybe even teach an elderly how to play a game! an elderly might be quite lonely in the home too so if a person comes and visit them, they will be very happy. personally, i went to visit and elderly before. it was for my school Values-In-Action (VIA) project. our class was buzzing in excitement as it will be our first time going to an elderly home as a class. we went to the home and taught the elderly how to use a phone. many of them have a phone but they did not know how to use it. by the end of our visit, they were very glad that we visited them. they knew how to handle a phone better and they can now get to talk to their loved ones. seeing the expression on their faces before we left was very surprising. we did not expect the elderly to like us so much. i would think that the elderly wellbeing is very important.

Us young students can be able to contribute to the wellbeing of the elderly by teaching them some technological skills, such as how to operate the computer, how to use a smartphone, how to use anything that requires teaching. This is due to the fact that we have lots of experience in operating these electronics, and that we have gotten very used to them, and some of them have become our source of information or entertainment, such as our mobile phones, the laptop or computer. If we are able to teach the elderly on these type of things, they would be able to better communicate with us, using their smart phones to call or text whenever there is a need to do so. This is because I have personally done this before to my grandparents, by teaching how go use their smartphones, and making sure they are not being scammed of anything, making sure to have their apps working well, as they may occasionally press the wrong button and disable something on accident.

yes,I find the activity in the picture meaningful since the students are able to spend quality time with the elderly by interacting and playing games with them. As many elderly in Singapore live alone, they often feel lonely since their children are often busy with their work and family of their own.For instance,I once went with my church to a nursing home to perform and interact with the elderly, after the performance and time spent with them,I could see that their faces are filled with joy and happiness.Hence,I would find the activity in the picture a meaningful one.

The elderly as seniors, will be able to understand the young people more and share their experiences or stories with them, as well as giving advices that will help the young people. The young people will also be able to learn valuable life values that can be used in different situations. The young people will be able to help the elderly to improve their skills like sending e-mails to another person. The elderly can learn how to use new technologies through the guidance of young people. Through spending more time together,it increases optimism and positivity in the elderly while young people learn how to care and respect their elders. These will improve the community health and build a more harmonious society.

If u ask me, I would definitely say that to a large extend, would agree to us bonding with our grandparents. The reason for saying that is because being us as their grandkids, they would want to know if we are still healthy and fit, whether we are able to cope with our studies, if we have committed any bad doings, etc. If we decide to ignore them and do something else, they will be upset, and that they will think that we do not care about them anymore, and that they do not longer matter to us, but we all know this is not the case. We may decline due to the fact that we are busy with our work or may be busy at that certain period of time. So, if we have the time and will, we can communicate with them and share with them what we are feeling, to let them know that ignoring them was not intentional. Plus, their days are numbered, they will not have that much time left, so we have to make the most out of it, so they would feel glad and respected, before their passing

Due to the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives whether we are teenagers or adults, we get carried away with what we are doing and often forget where our roots were. It was the pioneer generation who paved the way for us now and yet we do not appreciate them enough. Hence I conclude by saying that being able to bond with the elderly is indeed meaningful.

I believe that young people can contribute to the well-being of the elderly.I have two main ideas on how young people can contribute to the well-being of the elderly. firstly, regularly visiting and effectively communicating with them. By doing so,the elderly would feel more included in the lives of us teenagers/young people and would not feel lonely or left out.For example, interacting with the elderly would allow us to know the needs of them and to understand them more.Secondly,,we can also contribute to the well-being of the elderly by giving them a hand phone and teach them how to use it.By doing so,they could feel more engage in our everyday life since most of us nowadays have a phone. For example,we could help them to create a group with their children and grandchildren inside,so that they could actually video call their children which I believe would allow them to feel more comfort in the the event that they miss their children or their children don't live with them anymore. In conclusion,I think that young people can spend time with the elderly so as to understand them better or that they can teach the elderly how to use electronic devices such as smart phone so that they can communicate or video call their children any time.

This would then let both parties understand each other better and from there we can start building rapport with each other. Secondly, we could start teaching them how the mordern technology works. With most of our everyday lives revolving around technology, the elders might feel left out as they are not able to understand how far technology has come.

The students can be seen playing games with the elderly, this is beneficial to the elderly as well because playing games can prevent them from getting dementia. Spending more time with the elderly is good as we can communicate with them more and understand what their lives are like daily as many elderly are put in the old folk’s home because there is no one to take care of them. They will definitely feel bored and lonely as they are without their families, so playing games with them can make them happier.

Elderly, being our grandparent or relatives or neighbours, they would have encountered many issues and know more about the world , the society 见多识广and could guide us when we are lacking of direction in our live. Or maybe, in our difficult times, our grandparents could even give us some solutions on how to solve them. We could also talk to them and hear them share stories. The broaden smiles on their faces tells me that they are enjoying themselves a lot. This bonding time is beneficial for the elderly as most of the time, they are cooped up in their room with little activity. By engaging with the elderly lady, the students are enlightening her mood. Personally, I have experienced such an event before. During one of my CCA days, we went to volunteer in an old folks home. We set up many interactive and simple activities for the elderly. While participating in those activities we could see that many of the elderly were elated. I felt heartened seeing the elderly enjoying themselves.

Young people can contribute to the well-being of the elderly by taking part in events and activities which involves the elderly. As of today, the grassroots organisations in each estate of Singapore organises a lot of events such as festivals, marathons and more. We can help out by getting involved in the activities which cater to the elderly's needs. People's Associations (PA) actually offers anyone to be a volunteer in its organisation. I strongly believe that young people should volunteer and be a part of these activities as they are given the opportunity to create experiences and develop new skills. I used to do volunteering work with my friends. We aided in giving out food to homes of the elders. Although it was a tiring task, I was satisfied with it as I was able to see the joy on their faces when they received the food hampers. I felt a great sense of accomplishment through volunteering works.

These days, teenagers have been avoiding from trying to make any sort of interaction with their elderly as teenagers felt that talking to them are boring and that spending their time on their mobile phone is way better. Not only through games, the elderly can share their experiences and some life lessons to take away. personally, spending good quality time with elderly not only will it make them feel accompanied , but also improve the students' communication skills.

From the student point of view, it is a really rare opportunity to have such activities planned for them. in our daily lives, we hardly have any chance to interact with an elderly, hence this activity will enable students to communicate with precision.

The elderly will feel more emotional as times passes as they will soon see more and more of their loved ones moving on. They would worried about the time that it will be their turn. So, i suggest that young people should spend more quality time with them than on their mobile phones. Talking to them will make them happy and will bring their train of thought away from the worries that they are facing recently.

Young people can contribute to the well being of the elderly by teaching them a new skill of how to utilise a handphone to keep in contact with the outside world. By teaching them how to use the handphone and the social platform they get to widen their social circle and make more good friends. They would therefore have someone to talk to when they are bored and they could even widen their knowledge through the internet. So, by doing so, their mental well being becomes younger and healthier, and has a more positive attitude towards ageing.

Most of them at home feels lonely when their childrens are working and they are left nothing to do at home. By having young people around them, they can keep up with the society and trends. Cooping at home would not allow them to connect with people therefore breaking off contact with the society. At the same time, young people benefits by communicating with them.

I agree to this statement at a large extent. The old people in our lives would be our grandparents. As years pass by, the relationship between a student and his grandparents starts to be distant as they are piled with school work. In contrast, the elders grow old and suffer from diseases with their weak immune system. Thus, they have to take care of themselves. Both parties are busy with their own things without realising that they are distancing from each other. For instance, when I was in primary school, my father brought my siblings and I to our grandparents' house every single weekend. Although we often got bored, we were still entertained by the company. However, since I started secondary school, I don't go to their house as often anymore. I could not find the time to visit them. In my part, I definitely should visit them after school. Spending time with our grandparents or elders makes a bad day turn to a good one. As they have lived more than us, they definitely have more experiences. Small, little things like eating a home cooked meal by my grandmother makes me appreciate my grandparents more. They sacrificed time for our family. We should give something back to them.

One common way is to visit nursing homes for the aged, where the elderly see nothing but other elderly persons, nurses and the building. In order to spice up their lives, the young can make unexpected visit to the homes, so that it seems that something has appeared out of the blue, which can increase their attention levels for some time. Before the visits, the young can bring some board games or maybe even bring a digital device, like a phone or a laptop, and, during the visit, teach them how to use these items. By doing such visits, not only does this increase their motor skills but it will also improve and broaden their memory as they learn how to use things that they have not used before

This activity is probably part of the students' Values-In-Action project as I see other students in the background interacting with the elderly as well. In such projects, the value,' Listening with understanding and empathy' is widely practiced. We must not only view ideas from our own perspective but also perceive elderly's point of view. Patience is also frequently used in this activity as the thinking process of most elderly people gets less efficient as they age. With patience, the elderly as well as the students can enjoy the game without getting frustrated. If I were given an opportunity, I would definitely wish to participate in an activity involving the elderly.

I do agree to a large extent. Nowadays, young people are glued to their electronic devices, constantly looking at the screen whenever they have the chance. Sometimes, young people will not even be aware of the presence of their grandparents in the house. This shows how distracted young people are now. By being distracted, they are spending very little time with their grandparents. When spending quality time with their grandparents, young people can listen to their grandparents' childhood stories and get to know them better. They can also learn more about the past life of their grandparents and see how different they were from the way present. Young people can also teach the elderly on how to operate electronic devices. In this way, young people are helping the elderly keep up with the modern era.

I do agree, to a large extent, that both the pioneer generation and the youth should spend time together. This is because they, being our pioneer generation, have contributed a lot to the country into the position that it is now and that their surrounding environment has changed, like the latest trending stuff and the infrastructure. Since the young knows more about this changed world, as they have spent most of their lives in the modern world, they should talk to the elderly, like their grandparents, about how the world has changed and how technology has evolved. They can also talk about how different their lives were, how they had fun, made friends, what they ate and also what worldwide problems they faced. The young should also spend more time with the elderly as this interaction may change their views about what the elderly are, and they will also spend lesser time on their digital devices, hence decreasing the risk of worsening of eyesight

I find the activity in the picture meaningful. As seen in the picture, there are two girls who are playing games with an elderly. The smiles plastered across all their faces probably means that they are having an enjoyable time. In my opinion, I think that they are carrying out their Values In Action project in an elderly care centee. I find this activity meaningful as the elderly there probably feels lonely and bored most of the time, and they definitely miss their family and grandchildren. Being able to interact with the two girls will probably help the elderly in the picture reminisce the times with her grandchildren and will make them feel warm at heart. In addition to this, teenagers our age these days are addicted to electronic devices such as their handphones or laptops, therefore resulting in the fact that they do not spend time with their family members including their grandparents. This will be a great opportunity for them to interact with elderly and maybe even realise that they should spend more time with elderly instead of using electronic devices all the time.

Young people should spend time with the elderly to bond with them by participating in volunteer activities or simply taking care of our grandparents. The elderly love going back in time when they used to play games as young kids. We should pin our ears back when they are fervently recounting intrepid stories stories of their childhood. Therefore, young people listening to their stories and appreciating their experience would bring great joy to the elderly. With these thoughts in mind, I believe that one can see great improvement in the elderly's well-being if we listen to their stories.

For instance, I myself do not spend time with my grandmother too. My grandmother does not stay with me in the same house, therefore already reducing the chances of me having to spend time with my grandmother. In addition to this, my parents are often busy therefore we only get to visit her about once per month. My grandmother also often tell my parents that she misses us a lot and wish to spend more time with us. Therefore, if the young and elderly do not interact, the elderly may feel sad which is not something that we hope for. We should cherish the times we have we them and spend time with them.

If I were part of the government, I would agree to a large extent that young and old people should spend time together to bond with each other. By doing so, firstly, interaction with young people reduces the chance of dementia for the elderly. When the youth play games and communicate with the elderly, the old people's brain remains active and the risk of developing dementia is reduced. Secondly, I would like to make a point that the elderly are pivotal in keeping the culture of a nation alive by making the younger generation acquainted with their nation's culture. The young people develop a sense of living in harmony and hence Singapore's reputation of being a multi-racial country is not lost.

Young people can contribute to the well-being of elderly by volunteering their time to pay a visit to elderly care centres. In the point of view of those elderly staying at elderly care centres, they would probably feel sad and miss their family members a lot. By paying a visit to elderly care centres, we can substitute the role of their family members and I believe this would make the elderly feel better as well.
I’ve went to elderly care centres several times, but I vividly remember what exactly happened that one time. I was having a conversation with one of the elderly. She told me about how her family members do not visit her. Tears welled up in her eyes as she talked about it. Listening to her, i was reminded of my grandmother. I rarely spend time with her and often ignore her too. I was guilty after listening to the elderly and made up my mind that i would spend more time with my grandmother. Therefore, young people should try and spend more time with elderly so that the elderly would not feel down all the time, and try to add some happiness to their lives.

Further more, you will also get to discover more about singapore a multi-racial country. I personally went to a elderly home before and played games with the elderly. Our grandparents too will feel sad. I vividly remember a time when my grandmother was in the hospital and one of the elderly sharing her ward told us that she was going to be moved to the elderly care centre not to far away. Her children were too busy to pay her a visit, even when she was in the hospital. I teared up when she said that no one visited her. I was reminded of the times I ignored my grandmother and used my mobile phone even after her countless reminders. Feeling regretful, I told myself that I would take care of my grandmother while she recovered as I do not want her to feel the same way as her ward mate did. Therefore, young people should spend more time with them to help them feel appreciated.

Yes it is meaningful. It is important for the younger generation like us to bond with the pioneers. They are the storybooks of our past. If we do not bond with them now, we would not be able to learn about the stories of the kampung or the games they played. When I was 9, I went to an old folks home. There was a lady there who was very fluent in English. She told me that she didn’t have any education before but learned English from working at a hawker stall near City Hall. After working there for 10 years and hearing faint conversations, she was able to learn some English. There was also another lady who had told me about her kampung days. She was a very cheeky girl. She was never allowed to play with her brothers, which she had 10. She was often tasked to feed the chickens. She would go around her kampung to catch cockroaches then cut them up into small pieces. Then she fed them to the chickens. One day she was so tired of catching cockroaches, she thought she would serve chicken meat to the chickens. I was horrified. She also told me that she used to play games like playing swords that were made out of sticks tied together and her brothers using them to beat a monitor lizard. Yes it sounded terrible but she explained that they were kids and didn’t know any better.

Although there are some acceptable circumstances like not having enough financial aid to care for them. Being abandoned can cause a heartbreak in them, sometimes unable to eat or drink. What we can do to help their well-being will be to create a program which helps with reconciliation between child and parent, where a series of meetings and counselling will be provided. As well as, care packages for families that are not doing financially well that are taking care of children and elderly.

It hurts to see them sad because of the way we are using technology in the wrong way. Spending time with the elderly makes them euphoric as they can appreciate the way we can put our phones aside (which they know we love) and make room to talk to them.

The older generation are wise and have a lot of life lessons as they live in this earth longer. These lessons would be passed down to the younger generation. I do not meet my grandfather very often as he lives far away in Indonesia. But when i do, I love to listen to his stories of him back in the world war. It is a very scary time and it felt like it would never end.I learnt a lot of lessons from those stories such as being caring. My grandfather ,although he was a kid, shared rice with people in need. I also found out that my great grandfather was one of the Indonesian heroes and fought in the world war.

Yes, I find the activity in the picture is very meaningful. It shows a pair of students playing a game with an elderly. I think that they are doing this as a VIA project at an old folk's home. The game allows the students to bond with the elderly and learn more about the elderly life. The elderly would also feel elated as there are students spending time with them so they will not feel lonely. When i was in primary school, I went to participate in a VIA project just like this. We went to an old folk's home after school to spend time with the elderly living there. We had a great time communicating and playing activities with them.
