Winston is thinking about the proles and how they are Oceania's only hope of getting rid of the party. But then he is reminded by how inconsiderate the Proles are. This reveals how the party is vulnerable and desperate. He is worried about the corruption of the society. Winston yearns for the past.
-Rodger Soai

BIG BROTHER has stripped away the human-right to feel pleasure and or affection for an individuals opposite sex. In the passage Winston states how he came across a prostitute and within this encounter he comes across a memory with his previous wife Katherine. To compare a prostitute to an individual such as an individual as a Wife has insult only one can imagine. In this encounter he describes it as "As soon as he touched her she seemed to wince and stiffen. To embrace her was like embracing a jointed wooden image".
-Nathan Gazcon

Overall, George Orwell discusses the poisonous form of corruption that has taken over the city. BIG BROTHER not only gets his way but he does what he pleases. He implements fear—Room 101—into the minds of any party beside the Inner Party. Winston himself states "How could you tell how much of it was lies? It MIGHT be true that the average human being was better off now than he had been before the Revolution".
-Nathan Gazcon
