BACKGROUND OF PENANG ESCAPE THEME PARK

1) HISTORY

Escape Theme Park in Penang was recently opened in December 2012 at Teluk Bahang just after Batu Feringgi. This new and exciting theme adventure park was conceptualized by founder and Chief Executive of Sim Leisure, Sim Choo Kheng who states the the theme park in Penang is different from any other theme park as it is a re-visioning and departure from the conventional ideas of roller-coaster rides, and sugar coated fantasies. The adventure park draws from childhood past to capture the dreams and traditional values and addresses some of the problems of our current age by encouraging physical wellness and re-connection with nature.

2) MISSION

To create a fun destination with exciting rides and attraction. Hosted with nature in mind and to welcome visitors who understand that growing up is option.
 
3) VISION

ESCAPE is the fun destination with exciting rides and games hosted in a natural environment.

GREAT THINGS ABOUT PENANG ESCAPE THEME PARK
The uniqueness of ESCAPE is its idea in promoting visitor wellness and green awareness through fun in a thought provoking manner. I have particularly enjoyed ESCAPE quirky approach to creating green awareness, such as the provocative statements around the park. Talking of which, I was fascinated to see the green grass roofs on the recycled buildings and wondered how the cows got up there to graze but that grass roofs cool buildings and help to absorb rain.

BENEFITS
ESCAPE is set to play an ever-increasing role in drawing visitors to Penang but the benefit to the island doesn't end there. It provides employment and economic spin-off for Teluk Bahang. ESCAPE Adventureplay currently has 114 employees, 80% of them are from Teluk Bahang. It will employ more than 500 employees in the next 5 years when other phases are completed. The town of Teluk Bahang has also been transformed, restaurants and eateries are thriving, taxis are busier.

OPPORTUNITIES

ESCAPE has agreed to join us as Green Partner under the Penang Green Citizens Programme. ESCAPE is offering an extra 10% discount for Penang Green Citizens Cardholders (Green Card Holders) who are fond of exploring the green adventurous park. To date, nearly 10,000 citizens have pledged to be Penang Green citizens who are committed to practising save water, conserve electricity, support the anti-smoking initiative, reduce plastic bag usage, stop open burning, stop littering, work to reduce carbon footprint, cut down the use of polystyrene, help create a caring society and observe the 3Rs Reduce, Recycle, Reuse. A law for regulating their tourism industry. It is aimed at stamping out unfair competition, unreasonable price hikes, and forced goods purchases. The law includes provisions to take action against those rip off unsuspecting tourists, who are pressured to purchase goods or visiting questionable tourist places. 


With this insight, something has to be done. The problem is so common that I am certain that all of us have been or knows someone who has been subjected to similar scams, not necessary in overseas, but maybe even closer to home.

Penang escape theme park is a dream where childhood lives forever. Sim Choo Kheng worked towards building a memory of childhood spent outdoors in Kampung in Penang as he remembered it, and founded Sim Leisure, an international company that would one day build a theme park where his roots were.
