Her sculptures consist of traditionally painted teapots, cups, and bowls that appear to have melted. These sculptures feature a multitude of patterns from prints to plaid and retain their integrity when seemingly liquified. I took her ideas of a liquid based sculpture and decided to create a coffee cup that I would smash into pieces, then recreate the mug using slip. I would then paint the cup as if liquid was seeping from the seams of the recently broken mug. Notkin. I used his inspiration of skulls that he uses in his art work. Here, I wanted to showcase one overthinking everything. And so in the top I added a skull and a lighting strike to represent one overthinking everything in a dark matter. Towards the middle I added ocean waves to represent the chaos the occurs within the mind and in the bottom I added rocks to represent the bottom of the ocean to show the way out of the tunnel. The A shape was just because my last name starts with A. I wanted to create a broken flowerbed on the inside of my sculpture (with loose ceramic petals too), and a larger flower on the back plane of the piece too. Peled creates multiple flowers on her works, so I found it fitting to replicate that idea by making multiples for mine. To top it off, there will be one -whole- flower on the top ledge of the piece. Keeping in mind this theme, I wanted to base my project off of the waves of the ocean and use coils to create a fluid, intertwined type structure with some sort of base maybe on the bottom to support the structure, to represent the ever-changing and moving nature of the ocean.
