The Choctaws are original people of the American southeast, particularly Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida. Most Choctaws were forced to move to Oklahoma in the 1800's along the Trail of Tears. Their descendants live in Oklahoma today.They went voluntarily. They could see that it was a waste of time to rebel. At the time, instead of fighting back, they adapted.

Choctaw Indian Nation traces its ancestry to Mississippi and some sections of Alabama. Legends tell that the Choctaw people originated from "Nanih Waya", a sacred hill near what is now known as Noxapter,Mississippi. In 1829, the Mississippi State Government passed laws abolishing Choctaw Tribal Government and thereby extending the laws of Mississippi over Choctaws and their lands.

The Choctaws willingly moved from their home country (couldn't find) to Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia,Louisiana,and Oklahoma. Most of the people of the Choctaw tribe lives mostly in Oklahoma and Louisiana.

The Geography of Oklahoma encompasses terrain and ecosystems ranging from arid plains to subtropical forests and mountains. Much of Oklahoma consists of level plains, but the state also has rugged hills and mountains covered by green forests and the Prairie Plains.

They believed that they, along with other tribes, emerged from the earth through a mound called Nanih Waiya (Productive Mountain) in Mississippi. The Creeks were the first to emerge, followed by the Cherokees, the Chickasaws, and the Choctaws.
One of the distinctive practices of the Choctaw was head flattening. Male infants would have a board attached to their heads in order to flatten them. The most important religious ceremony was the Green Corn festival, which was both a ceremony of thanksgiving and a means for self-purification.

The Choctaws government was governed by the Choctaw Nation Constitution, which was ratified by the people on June 9, 1984. The constitution provides for an executive a legislative and a judicial branch of government. The chief of the Choctaw Tribe elected every four years.

The Choctaw language is American English today but elders still speek their native tongue (or language). Their native tongue is similar to the Chickasaw's native tongue.

Most of the Choctaw people are Christian because of the English settlers, and they had adopted this religion because this is where their beliefs lied. The Choctaw men would wear breach cloths which is basically a belt with a cloth covering their parts that we don't want to see. The Choctaw women wore skirts made from animal skins.

The Choctaw people ate what we would eat today Been, Sweet Potato, Maize (corn), Squash, Mellon (water Mellon, and cantaloupe), Sunflower seeds, and Fish. They had a healthy diet and had lots of foods we eat today.

The Choctaw traded food like their crops of corn, beans and squash. They also traded deer hide and fish. They produced enough surplus produce for trade with other tribes.

The members of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma are three times more likely to suffer from scleroderma, a rare disease that affects the skin and tissue but no one knows for sure why Choctaws have such a high rate of scleroderma, known for causing the skin to harden.

The Choctaws other adaptions are that they used the resources they have when they move to another place or when they are in one particular area. They did their best to build and adapt to their new homes as best as they could and they did it peacefully they didn't rebel against the Europeans like the other tribes did.

The Choctaw people lived in settled villages of houses and small cornfields. Choctaw homes were made of plaster and rivercane walls, with thatched roofs.
