Although I have struggled with my beliefs of a higher power and afterlife, some of the things I have seen are almost proof of a happy life after death. I am nervous, however, about the interview. It can be such a dark topic to talk about with someone and I am scared that after the first interview they will not want to come back and talk again. What if they get agitated or defensive? How will I handle it? I would like to believe that I will be able to handle the emotions during the interview, but what if I freeze or say the wrong thing?

Sitting there not knowing what I could do to help comfort them was the hardest part. I tried my best by hugging them, rubbing their back, and talking to them. It was a very emotional process and dealing with the emotions of myself and others is something I definitely need to work on.
After the interview I felt gloomy and down. It was hard having a friend recount such a devastating time in their life and it has not been very long since their aunt has passed. Whenever I think about the interview, I can't help but feel sad and like I have a rock in my stomach. The interview started off very sad but as we went through and talked about her growing faith, the conversation began to shift from dark to light.  After the interview I felt a little uneasy because I felt that I had cause my friend unnecessary pain and sadness. However, during the interview, I noticed that she had started to be able to speak more easily about her experiences and about her aunt. We talked a lot about the closeness and support that her family provided and it showed that we are never alone in times of grief. It was amazing to see the growth my interviewee has made throughout this process and how far she has come in accepting the loss of her aunt. She also found a lot of hope in God and said said that when she was unable to be with her family while at school, she knew she was never alone because she could always talk to God and felt that she was always in his presence. Talking about the loss of her aunt was no longer too difficult to talk about and there was a change in the tone of her voice from the previous interviews. Everyone we see and interact with are in different stages of life and each stage is so beautiful. From death and grief we grow as people and develop new mental and emotional characteristics. Grief is a long and hard process that is different for each individual and can be very complex for those who experience it and those around the griever.
