2nd grade will do a project to share with other schools through projects by jen. It will be The Day The Crayons Quit. We will find other items in our classroom that would like to "quit" and write from it's perspective. We will then design a way to present our ideas. (podcast, google slide, chatter pix, etc) The coordinator will help us share our projects with other schools. Deadline is to complete by March 31st.

I called Darla Hakanson, the counselor at Carson, and found out about the Safe Spot she is implementing in each classroom at Carson. Each teacher will have a bin filled with putty, mazes, stress balls, a Discovery Disc, sand timer, and other quiet things to fidget with. When students need to calm down they may go to the Safe Spot. Darla received a $3,000 grant from the Decatur Education Foundation to purchase the materials. I will check back with her soon to find out how effective it is. TV

We counted out 100 pennies, and 100 snap cubes. First students had to predict which one would be longer when laid out. Then, working as a group, they had to line up the 100 pennies, and connect the 100 snap cubes, and check their prediction. This integrated their past unit of money, and their current unit of finding length. -AD

We counted 100 beads and seperated the beads by color into groups of ten. When all 100 beads were separated accordingly we skip counted to 100 and placed the beads by color on a necklace. Students were instructed to tell anyone who asked about the necklace why we separated them like we did which brought up some very good vocabulary!

My students wrote all the things that make Rann a special school on a post-it note. We got to 100 really fast. However, I was really curious about Padlet. I didn't know much about it, but Mrs. Christian came in and showed us how to create a padlet. It was super easy and the kids learned how to post online. The padlet allows you to create a QR code and that makes it easier for the kids to post. This first experience went so well that I created another padlet and I found out how to post pictures and videos on the padlet. I can't wait to show kids how to create their own padlets for the class.
GG
