"Some teachers understand that students come from places beyond the classroom and can acknowledge that these places have an effect on students and the spaces they occupy." (Ch.1, Pg. 23)

This quote is powerful because teachers need to know that all students come from different homes. With that being said, teachers need to know that everything is not always peachy at home and sometimes school is there get away from that. School is sometimes their safe place, so they need to know that teachers are there for them.

"Instead of seeing the students as equal to their cultural identity, a reality pedagogue sees students as individuals who are influenced by their cultural identity." (Ch. 1,0 Pg. 27)

Just because students are the same color does not mean that those students learn the same. Teachers need to get to know their students individual so they both can come up with a way that helps the student learn best. This can avoid biases that teachers do not care and just want to teach because if you get to know your student then you can help them achieve success.

"If students are seated and quiet during most of the lesson, and teachers only have to yell enough times to get a sore throat once or twice a month, they view themselves as successful." (Ch. 2, Pg. 41)

I believe this takes away from a child. When teachers are constantly telling children to stop talking or punishing them when they speak then they soon are scared to speak. They don't want to ask a question because they are scared they will get in trouble. And when teachers don't have anybody ask any questions then they believe that they taught the lesson perfect.

"However, the key to getting students to be academically successful (even if the teacher decides that success means passing an exam), is not to teach directly to the assessment or the curriculum, but to teach directly to the students." (Ch. 2, Pg. 40

I believe this is truly important. Teachers should be teaching the curriculum just to teach it and get it out of the way. But learn your students and how they learn. Make it fun and exciting so they want to learn. Change the way they look at things. Make a difference in their life.

"The best classroom teachers develop ways to make the classroom feel like a family that has its own distinct rules, ways of speaking, and power dynamics." (Ch. 3, Pg. 60)

I feel like every teacher should make their classroom feel like a family. The classroom is where a student spends most of their day, five days a week. Everyone should support each other and be able to depend on one another.

"The use of humor at this early phase is supported by research in education that shows that humor in the classroom creates less threatening social scenarios and makes students more comfortable communicating with the teacher." (Ch 4, pg. 70)

I chose this video to correspond with this quote because it explains how humor helps your classroom. When teachers are strict, students are then scared to ask questions scared they might get yelled at. When teachers joke around with their students some and can connect with them a little more then the students don't feel like they are in a jail cell. Students are more comfortable and sometimes listen more when their teacher has humor. They also tend to give more respect especially when respect is given to them! I believe humor plays a part within a classroom.

"Cogens are simple conversations between the teacher and their students with a goal of co-creating/generating plans of action for improving the classroom." (Ch. 4, pg 65)

I chose this video because I think it relates back to the quote. I believe it corresponds with the quote because in the video the teacher is giving his students a survey so he can try to improve his classroom. This relates to the quote because the whole point of cogens is so a teacher and their students can generate plans and ideas to improve the classroom. I believe this is important because when you allow students to come up with different ideas to improve their classroom, then it makes them feel important. It also shows that you really do care about their learning and want them to succeed. The teacher is accommodating the classroom to make sure they get the best learning for them.

"The key to becoming an effective educator is acknowledging the differences between students and teacher and adjusting one's teaching accordingly, which often requires nontraditional approaches to teaching and learning." (Ch. 5, pg 83)

I love this video. I choose this video to relate back to this quote because this teacher adjusted her teaching style from just reading the book to rapping the book. She got her student's attention more from rapping it then just reading it. They paid attention to her and followed along because she changed her teaching style a little bit to fit their learning needs more!

I feel like a classroom should be bright and welcoming. Students should want to come to your classroom and want to learn. When the walls are blank and there are no inspirational quotes around the room then it is kind of hard to be motivated.
