Poetry Analysis

In my poetry, I used a few main poetry devices such as: alliteration, metaphors, repetition, symbolism, and rhyming. I used these devices in my poems to create a rhythm and style to it. I used a lot of repetition as a way to create an end and start to my poems. For example, in my poem "An Ode to the Teachers" I used the phrase "An ode to the" to start every stanza. I also used alliteration to strengthen the flow of my poems such as in my poem, "Monsters Under My Bed", I wrote the line "Walking alone wallowing and worrying". It made the poem more exciting to read and it made it stronger. Some of the main themes that I used were: summer, school, and personal/social issues. My poems "Ode to the Teachers" are about school. My poems "Snapshot of Summer" and "A Single Tear" are about summer. Lastly, my poems "Monsters Under My Bed" and “The Talent of the Talented” are about social/personal issues that I face. All of my poems are connected to people and places that I care about and that are important to me. I tend to find most of my inspiration from these things. I felt that writing poetry came naturally for me because I love music and writing music. People argue that music is poetry and I believe that it is true. This poetry unit was an incredibly fun way to end the year. I enjoyed connecting my personal experiences to poetry because it helped me express my imagination and ideas. Next time, I would love to read more of my poems to different people and hear their poems too.
