• Hipoacusia de conducción o transmisión: alteración en el oído externo o medio (otitis serosas, perforación, tímpano esclerótico, otoesclerosis, colesteotoma).
• Sordera neurosensorial o perceptiva: el «órgano de Corti» está dañado (prenatales, perinatales y postnatales (meningitis, otitis media).
• Sordera central o agnosia auditiva: lesión en las vías auditivas centrales.
• Sordera mixta: patología en la vía de conducción del sonido y en la de percepción.
