Since completing TAU, I have been appointed to a Faculty Coordinator Position for Learning, Teaching and Curriculum Development.
I've also been involved with the TAU Programme, primarily in the Curriculum Development Working Group, since 2019.

My TAU project was in translanguaging as a pedagogy for science education.

Designing AI in Higher Education to drive social justice

I am an Associate Professor in English Education. I changed employers recently from UP where I was the T & L coordinator (30 years' service at UP) to CPUT where I am now the HoD: Intermediate Phase Studies, Faculty of Education, on the Wellington campus.
My TAU project was on sourcing and evaluating apps for language teaching and I completed 2 cycles of the project after TAU. The project now includes three languages (English, Afrikaans, and Sepedi), and I would like to expand this to include isiXhosa.
 
I have since been involved with HELTASA on their project teams, the National University Teaching Awards (NUTA), and with TAU on the Evaluation and Monitoring Committee together with Rejoice and Lynn.

Our advisor was the amazing Rubby Dunpath and our group project was on the attributes of university lecturers, using the baobab tree as metaphor. My TAU project was on the work readiness of novice teachers. I am still working in this field and am collaborating with senior curriculum planners from the WCED to close the gap between the lecture hall and the future classroom of novice teachers, focusing on language teachers. My research is still focused on this, and tracing our graduates in the workplace. My other research interest is service-learning and community engagement. Since 2021 I have been part of the Curriculum Planning task team to plan the programme for future TAU cohorts, in collaboration with the TAU advisors and since 2022 I have served on the TAU OPSCOM.  Currently I am associate professor and assistant dean in the Faculty of Education, CPUT, Wellington campus. My dream would be to meet regularly as a group, share research interests, work collaboratively on projects and arrange exciting seminars for our colleagues from all four institutions in the Western Cape. I teach at undergraduate and post graduate level. The subjects that I teach are health care ethics, and primary health care. I also work in early intervention (the birth - 6 year old population) as part of clinical service delivery and training. I am also the post graduate programme coordinator in the Division Speech-Language Therapy.  

Since TAU I served as the chairperson of a Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Scholarship of Educational Leadership work group and published a chapter in an ebook on transformative education in the rehabilitation sciences, based on my TAU project! I am also the co-PI of a SASUF digital exchange programme in the field of cultural competence, patient-centred care and global health concepts. 

What would I like TAU WC to address? Not sure, to be honest! I think just knowing about each other and the various areas of interest and expertise can go a long way in fostering collaboration. We could also look at mentorship of young HE teachers...

It might just be me, but workloads feel VERY pressured and HE in a tight spot in general. I am not sure what we can do about it. But learning about each others experiences and needs may be a start, or at least therapeutic.

Since TAU, I've continued to focus on collaborative paradigms in teaching and learning. Since TAU2 I have concentrated on organisational development work - institutionally on inclusive placemaking and its meanings both physical and digital, educationally on assessment policy, departmentally on change of exclusionary leadership practices.

Now we are under subsidy pressure to reduce credit loads of programmes and funding pressure to reduce staffing, with little theoretical framing on curricula or fine-grained understanding of the deep structures of course sequences which could easily be lost in the urgent necessity of gaining efficiency. My focus during TAU 1 (and still is) is the relevance of the curriculum for professional accountants. My educational philosophy is geared towards promoting student-centred learning in which I see my role as a facilitator. Using different interactive teaching and learning strategies I aim to encourage rational discourse and critical reflection. Over the years as an educator, I have introduced and developed innovative teaching and learning strategies to promote student success and development. My research has focused on the conceptualisation and development of peer-led tutorial programmes, an Anatomy and Physiology baseline assessment for all first year’s students and formative learning tools to enhance students’ understanding of anatomy and physiology. 

My TAU project focused on the conceptualisation and implementation of a Tutor training course. The key objectives of the course were to provide tutors with the theory and practical tools required to effectively promote learning, group work and social inclusion. 

Within the courses I teach, especially in years 1-2, a key objective and focus is the development of inclusive education where curricula are designed to accommodate the needs of students of diverse backgrounds rather than forcing students to adapt to a fixed curriculum.

I am primarily working in clinical practice and on a joint appointment with UCT. This entails teaching undergraduate and post graduate students in the field of general medicine and cardiology in particular. In addition I supervise masters students, but, as is common with clinicians in the university, we don't have direct interaction or input into the university educational aspects.
