Title: Rain Reign
Author: Ann M. Martin
Date Finished: 11/04/2018
Genre: Fiction
Summary: Oh my goodness, what a tear jerker! Rose is a high functioning autistic girl who has an obsession with rules and homonyms. As a result, Rose has a difficult time making friends at school. She has an inseparable relationship with her dog Rain. The two love each other. In the midst of a huge storm, Rain gets out of the house and gets lost. Rose blames her father for letting the dog outside without her leash - ultimately breaking one of the rules. Will Rose be able to find Rain?
Who would like this book? This book would be a good choice for anyone, especially animal lovers or those interested or curious about autism. Fifth graders or middle school grades would enjoy this book.
Bonus: Window/ Mirror Book. Rose is raised by her father. Her mother ran away when Rose was very young. This book could be a mirror for a child who does not know their mother and is being raised only by their father. This book could also serve as a mirror for those with a disability, such as autism. It is not often that these children see themselves represented in literature. It also allows students who do not suffer from autism to better understand what it is like for another student with the condition.
