The background is that the student groups were given a random famous person and they had to prepare a short skit where that famous person comes to our modern life. They had to use particular vocabulary that was given to them and the action had to take place in a particular place. This final exercise is to lament the knowledge of these famous people, their personality, practice students critical thinking skills and etc.

In the lesson we had a discussion what they consider as Traditional Media and New Media. What kind of media they consume more and why. In the lesson we also analyzed print ads using Q&A routine. I also gave them homework: ''My 48-hour Media Log'', on the worksheet I added a vocabulary bank (vlog, blog, viral etc.) and a list of media related prepositions (on the phone, on the Internet etc.). In our second Media Literacy lesson they presented their Media Logs and had to take the Quizizz ''test''. The quiz was fun and seemed that my students enjoyed it a lot.
I believe it was a fun way to check their progress

Some tasks ask them to think and explain their own opinion. Also, they can do a survey to find out how good friends they are. Proverbs task lead them to get better overview from different cultures (Estonian and English proverbs - similarities/differences between them).
To make learning process more enjoyable I created Gimkit game for my students.
I think all these activities help the students to be better prepared for the next lesson in which we can discuss, make up dialogues, improve speaking skills.

Before I start with the wall of text explaining the context of this actitivy: please, feel free to vote!

This activity is designed as an extension to an existing lesson in the curriculum. The unit is dedicated to mysteries and the vocabulary lesson that introduces media-related vocabulary is mostly focused on fake news and sensationalism. To introduce the vocabulary, the authors used a text about a piece of fake news describing an alleged UFO sighting. I thought it would be interesting to extend this topic to include some authentic language and to allow my students to work on something more substantial and tangible, given that the original coursebook text is quite general. I chose the topic of Oumuamua the first interstellar object observed within our Solar System. It is quite widely studied, so I can rely on plenty of trustworthy reference materials, but it also gave rise to some wild speculation back in the day. The two slides would be a starting point for discussion. What makes some headlines more intereting than others? How are the authors of the headlines trying to gain your trust? I'd also ask students to guess which of the headlines come from reputable news agiencies, from NASA and form a shady website and them show them the full articles.

In case you've never used Mentimeter and are confused, here's an example of a completed presentation: https://static.mentimeter.com/screenshot/pdfs/Internet%20safety.pdf?seriesId=e62743a4b7e593d95539595372a48a2c&screenshotTargetUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mentimeter.com%2Fpreview&_gl=1*1j2ahjy*_ga*NzEwNzgxMTQ0LjE2NjI0Njg1NTQ.*_ga_TCT6BBBKGN*MTY2NzI0OTAzMC4yNS4xLjE2NjcyNDkwOTcuMC4wLjA.*_ga_5V8GZ3NSZE*MTY2NzI0OTAzMC4yNS4xLjE2NjcyNDkwOTcuMC4wLjA.&_ga=2.148118327.1893377748.1667212366-710781144.1662468554

Potential homework idea: ask th students to come up with a new, better headline for the Breaking News English article on the matter: https://breakingnewsenglish.com/1712/171216-space-object-5l.html

Ksenia Frąszczak
