         <title>ADAPTATION IN CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> Abstract Standing at the centre of a dynamic process of communication between communicators from different cultures, consecutive interpreters adapt to the oral interpretational eco-environment through selective adaptation and selection. Providing exemplification and analyses from his own thirty-odd years of experience of work with English-Chinese and Chinese-English consecutive interpreting, the author first discusses the oral interpretational eco-environment and the interpreter’s adaptation and selection to it. On this basis, he then classifies the interpreter’s selective adaptation in consecutive interpreting into three types: i) adaptive replication; ii) adaptive reduction, and iii) adaptive addition. The interpretational and situational examples of adaptation and selection clearly demonstrate that when interpreting is regarded as a process of the interpreter’s adaptation to the oral interpretational eco-environment, this leads to an effective rendition.          <title>Translation and Music</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;Until quite recently, research on translation and music has been rather neglected within translationstudies, despite the vital role that music plays in the day-to-day lives of individuals and the development, cohesion and organization of societies. The reasons behind this peripheral disciplinary position are explored and a critical examination of recent research on the topic is offered. Translation and music is shown to be a fascinating area to explore, not only for specialized translators/scholars but also for researchers in translation studies, cultural studies, media studies and musicology. By investigating the role played by translation in the context of musical performances, we can enrich our understanding of what forms translation can take and how it may relate to other forms of expression. The article concludes by suggesting future avenues of research and theoretical frameworks, especially favouring the use of a descriptive and systemic approach to both micro- and macro-level investigations in this field.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>• Modelo 3<br>• Impersonal<br>• Voz activa&nbsp;<br><br>&nbsp;The present paper aims to illustrate the applicability of corpus linguistics (CL) to audiovisual translation (AVT) and to provide an empirical description of familiarizers in movie conversation as an example of such applicability. The paper is conceptually divided into two main parts: the first, which is introductory, illustrates the benefits that AVT can gain by adopting CL as a methodology, describes the modus operandi followed, and briefly introduces the linguistic items analyzed. The second part, which is more practical, first focuses on original American movies, by investigating the frequency, collocations, colligations and the lexical bundles of ‘guys’, ‘man’, ‘buddy’ and ‘dude’; and then focuses on dubbed Italian movies, by exploring the ways in which these familiarizers are translated. Results show that: the functions that familiarizers traditionally carry out in spoken interaction are also present in original movies; their use in more recent original movies is closer to spoken language than older movies; they tend to be less dubbed after the year 2000; and despite such cut, the function of the linguistic features used to dub them in more recent movies is closer to that of the original movies than those produced in older times.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Current trends on MA translation courses in the UK: changing assessment practices on core translation modules</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>  Assessment underpins all forms of translator training and is an essential element of any teaching and learning process. By looking at university assessment practices, we can gain an insight into current understandings about the nature of translation practice and what issues are foregrounded in translator education. This paper presents the findings of the second stage of our research into assessment practices on core translation modules of MA Translation courses offered in the UK, and follows on from a preliminary case study conducted at the University of Westminster in 2015 and 2016 with MA Translation tutors and students (n=16; n=53). The research presented in this paper was carried out via documentary research into all universities offering MA Translation courses (n=27) and via a survey which asked a representative of each UK university to fill out a questionnaire. The questionnaire was completed by 55% of universities (n=15). The areas explored include universities' learning outcomes, assessment instruments and criteria. In the light of the data gathered, our study aims to discover if and to what extent current assessment practices on the core translation modules reflect the competence-based understandings of the translation process and have adopted new forms of assessment. <br>-  Verbos en pasado y presente.<br>-Primera persona del plural.          <title>A corpus-based investigation of explicitation patterns between professional and student interpreters in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;This paper investigates the influence of interpreters’ expertise on their explicitation patterns in Chinese to English (C-E) consecutive interpreting (CI). An analysis of the performance, notes and retrospection of 12 professional interpreters and 12 student interpreters revealed the following common features: 1) the majority of explicitations are of experiential nature; 2) most explicitations are for clarification; 3) it is common for interpreters to explicitate to make up for competence insufficiency. Additionally, based on differences identified between the two groups, the study revealed the following tendencies: 1) tendency of clarification: professional interpreters tend to clarify the original information; 2) tendency of cohesion enhancement: professional interpreters tend to add conjunctive adjuncts to enhance cohesion; 3) tendency of subjective reinforcement: professionals tend to reinforce the speaker’s attitude by adding attitudinal information or intensifiers; 4) tendency to use explicitation as a strategy to make up for inadequate interpretingcompetency: student interpreters tend to explicitate for time-management and gap-filling purposes. It surveys both intralingual and interlingual forms of AVT. Intralingual forms of AVT are forms of transfer of linguistic material within the same language, mainly for the use of people with hearing or sight disabilities. In these forms the language is not altered, but the semiotic code is, e.g. from spoken to written in subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, or from visual to spoken as in audio description. In interlingual forms of AVT, translation proper takes place, as one natural language is substituted for (as in dubbing) or accompanied by (as in subtitling) a translationinto another natural language. This paper introduces translation scholars to some of the complexities of investigating volunteering and motivation, informed by research from sociology, behavioural economics and social psychology. It then makes a methodological contribution to the study of volunteer translation motivation by assessing the potential of qualitative analysis of translators' discourse to derive conceptually sound categories of motivation. This methodology is tested on a small set of statements from volunteer translators for TED. The test case prepares the ground for much-needed, larger-scale studies into volunteer translation motivations. The paper concludes by advocating a mixed-methods approach which can accommodate multidimensional perspectives and contexts of volunteering.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Fansub Dreaming on ViKi</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> Fan subtitling, or ‘fansubbing’, is a heterogeneous and rapidly growing field of amateur translation exhibiting a number of traits that have so far been overlooked by scholars of audiovisual translation. Current research on fansubbing is broadened by examining this phenomenon beyond the strictures of anime subculture alone, drawing on the counter example of Internet start-up company ViKi and exploring the gaps in mainstream subtitling that fansubbing both exposes and fills. The team of volunteer translators working for ViKi re-animates notions of global diversity by capitalizing on the affordances of new technologies and collective intelligence to break down the national and linguistic hierarchies that dominate contemporary media and professional audiovisual translation. Despite a largely conservative ‘look and feel’ and signs of increasing commercialization, ViKi’s fansubbing model makes an important contribution to the internationalization of audiovisual translation practices, bringing programs from small-language communities to diverse audiences across the globe. The paper further considers the extent to which the legalization of ViKi’s fansubbing activity empowers fans to bring about real change in the media marketplace </div>]]></description>
