In this book (3rd of the Divergent collection), the main characters, Tris and Tobias, find themselves in a genetics center where they find out people are divided in there as geneticallly pure and genetically damaged, based on characteristics they are born with, and there is a group of scientists who plan to create a serum to kill many "genetically damaged" people. The story relates prejudice based on genetic material.

Human race is a sociologic, not scientific concept

Many people think, and so did I, that race was a scentific concept, that black and African people necessarily have most similar genes than a black person and a white one. A german, white, blonde and pale eye person and a black, dark hair and eyes person can have closer DNA than two very physically similar people. Race is actually a social concept and was created to make it easier to divide people in different groups, and with this, decide some hierarchy between those groups. This proves racism has no scientific explanation.
Font: Cole, Nicki Lisa, Ph.D. "How Do Sociologists Define Race?"

In the movie Gattaca, Vicent was born in a natural way, differently from most people in the genetic engeneering world he lives, being considered an In- Valid, and he has health problems, expecting to live for maximum 30 years. He is a cleaner in a space center by has a dream of going to the space. One day, he does a pact with a man called jerome, who has the right genes but was paralyzed in an accident. Vicent will have Jerome`s identity so that he can go to space. The movie happens with the fear of both of them of being discovered. This movie relates a story where genetic engeenering becomes common and with it, different types of prejudice.

Our physical chacateristics such as eye, hair or skin colors are result of our DNA chacateristics but are also relative. Someone may have a very pale skin but start living in some very hot place and the skin gets darker. We can even change some of those characteristics such as our hair color or our eye color with lens. Is important to have knowledge that the way we look outside shows nothing about us and in same cases it may not even be natural.

In the future, as Allegiant shows, as genetic modification happens and people`s DNAs get each time less similar, different types of prejudice can start, based on the genetic material and DNA characteristics. In the movie Gattaca for example, there is prejudice based on being born in natural ways, having less abilities (that come from the modified genes).

Eugenics is a biological theory created by Grancis Galton , Darwin`s half- cousin. The theory consists in an idea of some people being "well born" and some characteristics making some people superior than others, such as being more athletic, being "smarter" (based on school grades), being prettier based on the society stereotypes, etc. It was a base for racism that leaded to slavery during many centuries, to forced of sterilization of women that didn’t follow certain society patterns in the United States during a period, and is still defended by some people nowadays, even though it has no scientific value and is only a easier way to put people in social hierarchy.

Font: https://www.history.com/topics/germany/eugenics
