One main character from the book 1984 was Julia. In the book she had the quote "Always in the stink of women! How I hate women!" this shows that Julia never liked the idea that society put in peoples heads about how they are supposed to act. Julia wanted to be her own person, not the person society wanted her to be.

Another main character in the book 1984 was Winston Smith. In the book he said "Not physically. Six months, a year--five years, conceivably. I'm afraid of death." Throughout the whole book Winston was talking about death, how he was afraid of it and he was starting to notice that death was coming closer. In the book he almost died and I think that that made him less afraid of it. He had to learn that death wasn't his greatest fear and there are more terrifying things out there.

In the book the government was definitely a Totalitarian government. In the book the government was trying to change their language into "Newspeak". The government wanted to limit the way people were thinking and in their attempt to do that they wanted to limit their vocabulary.

Another example of why the government in the book 1984 was a totalitarian government was that whenever anyone to think differently they tortured them until they conformed to society. In the book when Winston and Julia got caught trying to take down Big Brother the workers took them to The deprtment of love and tortured, starved, and manipulated the people into loving Big Brother. The government was trying to go as far as controlling their thoughts and opinions about the society.

The theme of 1984 is full power corrupts almost everything. In the book the government had power over everything. The way people spoke, how they thought, how they ate, how they worked out, who they loved, and so much more.

My ideal government would be an equal society. There would be no discrimination based on things like who you chose to love, the pigment of your skin, and the types of religion you chose to follow. My idea government would have the upper class paying more taxes and not having the middle class basically holding up the economy. During trials my government wouldn't chose sides based on what they liked but based on what is right. There would be actual fair trials.
