Anti climax: to build up to nothing
Irrecoverable(football game): he peaked when he was playing football
Pungent: strong smelling either good or bad
Supercilious: to feel superior nose held up high
The fact that Tom peaked in college football. You can tell that he is likely going to be a bitter person the rest of the novel, or possibly a person to continually remind the audience of his accomplishments without remorse. He is however the person to be very stuck up because of his families Wealth and his physic. He seems to be a mans man, like he is a huge brute that acts like a very stoic father. I see the colors red, gold, and white the most often, and and from what i know from real life red white and gold all mean something different. Red mean passion, rage, love, and power. Gold means money, and status. White however is something completely different as it shows purity, holiness, virgin, and pristine. I think that Tom is very argent and he is a person to be friends with but not for his personality, but for purely business. I think that he will play an important part, like he may rival our protagonist, or even be a speed bump in the way. I think that Tom is also deeper than a “HULKING BRUTE” and more will be reviled about him later.

The great gatsby seem like a good enough book for me to read on my own without being held accountable by school requirements. I think that the book has much to offer in the future chapters with an affair sort of That Tom is having. Also the mystery of gatsby being hyped up as he is making the reader thinking is he all he is cracked up to be and when will we see him or learn more about him. I also think that the use of what seems to be A plot B plot is very cool with the great gatsby being B plot and going to pay off later I think it would have been better if it had been subtler.

There are 4 new location in this expanding book; first the east, and west egg, then there is valley of ashes, and finally New York. First the east egg with all of the old money or the people who were born into wealth likely changing how those people treating money, they probably treat this money like it is nothing special, and confused how others live without(may spend frivolously). The west egg however are people of new money or a booming trade and got rich quickly, they Treat money very differently more likely to save, because they know how it is to be without, they are probably more likely to be kinder and more generous to those trying to get where they are at now(at least that what i would do being newly rich). Then there is the valley of ashes which is described to be a dreary place with the colors given, and the use of smoke making me think that this is a very industrial place with no hope of anything more. Lastly there is NewYork which in this time and even now this is the place where dreams happen and the type of people here are dreamers and determined people who are not going to let life take controller of them, they take control of there life. All in all these type of people in this time will be interesting to see if from the eve of a newcomer in the biggest city in the world.

I liked chapter 2 more than the first because of the pieces and world building that we see in this chapter that was not in The first. What i see that is interesting is the dynamic between Tom and hid mistress and seeing that from an outsider perspective, even though Tom and his mistress isn’t really closed to nick he is more of a fly on the wall. Also in this book that you dont see in others and more in this chapter him think to himself. He is also a very interesting character because he is so open minded because in media people think that yo have to be on one side or the other, this character is very open to both sides and you see this because he is uncomfortable to go with Tom but he never leaves, which being a man he very well could have.

Jordan says “They'll keep out of my way," she insisted. "It takes two to make an accident." With this we can see what kind of person she is, and what her lavish childhood caused her to become. This type of think shows that she is careless because she views herself better than all others, because of her high status. The novel represents social class as the rich owning much and the poor, or the ”valley of ashes” are just surviving, the one new thing that i seen that many books don’t do is showing the difference between new and old money, and showing the differences to each. I think that nick is a very special case because he is by no means the richest man, yet he is still invited to the party, and that is because he can “pass” on to the upper class because of who he is. I also think that the “new money” would have sympathy for the people in the “valley of ashes”.

Social class is such a great topic and is and has been very relevant for thousands of years because some people just want more than others. The great gatsby is doing a great job representing the social classes, and i hope they continue to bring up interesting takes on what we view social classes as. I think that in books it is easy for the reader to see what the author is trying to say when It comes to social classes because it is so prevalent in real life.

From what we know about mr. Wolfsheilm is that he is a gambler and rigged a World Series for his benefit and never was caught an likely wont be caught. But gatsby knowing a man like this puts his character in to question, asking why does he know such a man and what could gatsby be into that would lead him to people like this. Then there is the card that he shows the police which possibly hints to have in connections with. The local police that could be either sinister, or more innocent, but what can be said about gatsby is not much more than< mysterious. Which what we know about gatsby and how he tries to present himself we can see that he is trying to uphold the image that he is an humble traveling prince. And we know this with the lies he tells like this one “He hurried the phrase "educated at Oxford," or swallowed it, or choked on it, as though it had bothered him before. And with this doubt, his whole statement fell to pieces, and I wondered if there wasn't something a little sinister about him.” As well as the words he uses to try to uphold that image.

I think that lies are a very tricky topic because it is easy to say that no one should “lie” Ever but if you look back at the last week you can think at least of a few that you have told to even the people that you care and love. And this topic gets even harder depending on the situation lets take for example a married couple that have found themselves in the situation of an affair, now there is a few options you can confront and probably ruin that relationship, or you can lie and fool yourself that it is fine and nothing should be done or it’ll sort itself out. And lying becomes easier to those in positions of power because of the risks involved in getting exposed, so the better they have to be.

Fitzgerald refers back to this green light that sits on the edge of the dock, and gatsby describes it as such “the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then” showing the hopefulness And his optimism even though as he says that it eludes him. Since he is admitting to it eluding him that can be misinterpreted as giving up or bitterness towards his hopes, but it is the same if you were a bird and kept of failing to fly the bird doesn’t just give up on trying to fly they find a way And they will fly. I think that this green light stands for hope but to be specific the hope that one day in the future daisy will be in gatsby’s arms and no one else’s, and i think they will get there. The color green is interesting because more often than not it is referring to sickness, jealousy, and growth, and in this situation i think that light symbolizes both jealousy and the hope of growth. There is going to be jealousy in this situation because daisy is not a free woman, and i think this ties i with the HOPE of growth between daisy and gatsby.

I think that hope is a wonderful thing to have it is like a goal that is uncertain to happen, and that sound worse than just any other goal, and on paper hoping for something that might not happen sound illogical, but if you have ever found yourself in that situation it is a very strong feeling that will overcome you, especially if you feel strongly about this thing. I think that hope is functional (kinda depends on situation) because the hope to be better is strong and as long as you hold onto that hope you will continue to better yourself.

We learn from the flash forward that nick gives us (audience) shows a confession from gatsby showing that his family did not come from oxford, money, or prestige. His family was in fact lowly farmers that just worked like many other farmers did before them. But with the lies that gatsby spun shows what he values what he thinks others value, and that he is shameful of how he got what he gots. This also goes with the creation of “jay gatsby“ and this makes sense because he crates this character when he sees Dan a man with a lot of money who had it figured out he wanted to be like him making this new person that is educated and prestigious.

With this said i think that we can understand the idea of jay gatsby, and i think that a personality change like this is important for Gatz because It gives him the confidence to live his life to get to where he wants to go (riches). I also think that we can take some notes on what he did because he see what he wanted, then he changed himself accordingly to get what he is after, for me at least its not money, but the meat hide still applies to be determined and to go after what you want and with that determination you will get what you are after.

Daisy and gatsby are in love. We know that gatsby is in love with daisy because of how long he spent (5years) accumulating wealth to be able to take her away from her old life. And we know that daisy reciprocates these feelings because of the way that she acts around gatsby, even in front of her husband. Even so daisy still has feelings for Tom we know this becasue right at the climax she says it out right “"Oh, you want too much!" she cried to Gatsby. "I love you now--isn't that enough? I can't help what's past." She began to sob helplessly. "I did love him once--but I loved you too."”. We also know that Tom does love her, even though its not as much as gatsby or even as much as he should he does love her. It’s hard to determine who nick loves through this novel, and we don’t have a clear image, but what he loves the most is the the idea of gatsby the mystery and the man that gatsby is (as a role model). The idea that Fitzgerald is tryin to get across is that love is a very fickle thing and it may not even know what it wants itself and is even dangerous to follow sometimes, with the undertone of it being worth it, like the satisfaction of the journey being over.

I think that love is a very volatile thing and is very hard to capture, however i think that true love can be found in contentment and being happy with what you have. The most obvious comparison here is Tom becasue he was not just content with his wife he risked his marriage giving daisy a reason to doubt there marriage to look for other sources of love. Then there is gatsby not being content with the time he knew daisy, needing more of her even willing to ruin a marriage for his happiness. But this can be applied in other places in you own life other than some old book, like being happy with what you have causes you to treat them better and in turn makes them want to treat you better (positive feedback loop). Being happy with what you have will just make whoever you are a happier person and to do it is just to be thankful for what you have.

We can drawl conclusions from the cover to assume that they are the same eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg. I’m not exactly sure what this is supposed to mean, but if i had to guess I think that i would say that this shows that someone is always watching and the actions you take you will have to live with and suffer the consequences. I think that is relevant because of what each character has done without everyone’s knowledge and the result of keeping secrets and the bubbling explosion it created.

In chapter the american dream is a little different from person to person but the main idea is still their throughout all of their dreams, and that is that with hard work and determination you can change you life for the better, and most often sought through money. The novel also describes the american dream for at least gatsby is to have money and be high class, he wanted this because he was brought up poor with no social status so he wanted to know what it felt like especial after seeing what dan had he wanted it. Then for Myrtle her american dream was for money as well, but she went to vexing rich men to get what she wanted (while married). The way they try to get what they get is different, but they all wanted money and all end up unhappier than they started. And Tom and daisy are very interesting people because their dream were different and changed towards the end unlike gatsby who never changed what he wanted. At first daisy just wanted a better husband, that still had money and she seen that in gatsby and wanted him up until chapter 7 then cracks in her dream start to show. And Tom wanted to have a stable woman (Daisy) To fall back on while he messes around falls apart around chapter 7. But with how they are this one quote describes them very well “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy – they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.” And it hits a little harder knowing that 3 people died partly becasue of them.

I think that dreams and goals are good to have and they help many become better people. I think that people who are determined to do something are nice to be around, as long as their goals dosn’t mess with others. My goals are to read, listen better to people and to workout regularly. And the blocks that i have found is Definitely motivation especial because of the pandemic, and other thing getting in the way of them. I think for anyone trying to meet their goals, should start small scale and then work up to bigger scale, and be ok with set backs as long as you get up from them and do better “next time”.

I think that the ideas conveyed in the book I can relate too, especially recently. In the book the ending thoughts are gatsby’s ambition is what was represented with the green light, and he dangers of love. I think that i am going into my senior year lining up jobs, and buying my first car makes me think that i am starting this road of chasing the green light. As well as finding people to love and deal with what that love comes with.
