I have learnt that when it comes to bringing about meaningful change, it is not enough for a leader to be motivated by good intentions and ambitions. A good leader is one who understands what the things at stake/of importance are and knows how to deliver the message to convince others to adopt the same goals and to work towards realising them.

2. My Pledge and Commitment

From my observation and input from the programme, I have concluded that education is the most effective avenue for long term community development. I will get more involved in efforts to help improve and make education more accessible for all Malaysian students through participation with NGOs and donations where I can.

- Volunteering with NGOs such as Teach for Malaysia and the Pintar Foundation which are focussed on improving education for Malaysian children and the younger generation.
- Learning and keeping up to date with social issues both in Malaysia and around the world along with the initiatives taken to deal with them so that I can understand the situation and learn how I can contribute. An example is the issue of clean water and initiatives taken by charity: water.
- Spreading awareness on dire social issues to friends and family to educate and encourage their participation/involvement

Leadership is not just about leading; it is about learning. Learning how to communicate, learning how to collaborate. A great leader is not born but made. A leader strives not for the good of his own, but the good of many.

To develop Malaysia’s technology and uplift the lives of many, especially the underserved, through modernisation.

- Enhance knowledge on the inner working of Computer Science and technology.

- Research on the best approach to avail the knowledge gained to improve technology in Malaysia.

-  Volunteer at organisations that aid the needy to figure out what would be the best way to uplift their lives through technology.

-To practice high integrity, transparency and accountability in the work force, while maintaining high moral values as a community member.

-To possess measurable and outcome-based visions and aspirations through shared values in the community.

-To possess high tolerance of ambiguity in any leadership position. 

-To be a supportive member of community and law-abiding citizen.

2. My Pledge and Commitment

I believe I can contribute by being a part of the next generation of Malaysia’s public intellectuals, particularly in the humanities. As the Labs 8 discourse shows, Malaysia needs a new way of thinking about our own identity, and this includes critically questioning our past such as with British colonialism, and the elite-based approach to nation-building that we have simply accepted rather than critically questioned. As our nation and the world faces the challenge of achieving the SDGs and more, I pledge to take up this challenge and study a Masters in the field of Political Sociology/Philosophy after serving my bond with Yayasan Khazanah.

I hope to be able to develop my communication skills as well as my self-organisation. I have learned that communication is crucial as we are not living in a time where we can be a lone wolf and expect results. I also recognise the need to work on my organisational skills as I need to have a better way to catalogue my ideas and reflections.

Leadership is an action, not a position. It is crucial for leaders to have a clear vision and goals, and empower everyone else to work collaboratively to achieve those goals. Sometimes, our moral judgement could be blurred by personal reasons, even then, we should carefully weigh out all the possible consequences and decide on what’s best for everyone. Qualities like persuasiveness, leadership and critical thinking are important in everyday life no matter what we do.

I pledge to utilise what I learned through YKLDP as well as knowledge from my degree to contribute to the betterment of society as well as supporting the SDGs especially regarding health and education. I will continue to take part in organisations that serve these purposes and be more involved in current issues relating to the SDGs.

Leaders must not be reduced to titles with typical and minimal leadership qualities. Leaders should bring change for the better, taking in criticism, improvement points and much more in order to cater to the ones that need to be listened. However, a leader can’t possible do it all. With the help of many others, multiple solutions can be explored and achieved.

To bring even more awareness and proper action to help save Malaysia’s crumbling ecosystems. Getting people on board to help save the country we are in for the future generations. Provide even more easily accessible information, workshops and more to Malaysians on what their roles are as well as how they can contribute to the development of the country.

- Enhance knowledge on the current climatic affairs

- Find other ways to expand the knowledge (i.e. not just through social media campaigns)

-  Participate in more volunteering opportunities to gain insight from the current leaders, take in what else I can do when it comes times where I can take on the leadership role.

I have learnt that effective leadership is achieved through understanding the problems and concerns of those on the ground. Humility and an openness to new ideas aid a leader in making better decisions, while gaining confidence of those around them and overall strengthening the team.

I truly desire to lessen the inequality of education between rural and urban areas. Our nation’s inability to fully provide a learning platform for everyone results in so much untapped potential. I pledge to fight for a system to provide relevant education opportunities for everyone.

Through this programme, it has become an eye opener for me, where I can see the realities that people are actually struggling to even get basic necessities such as education.

I pledge to involve more in volunteerism and to reduce the inequality in education especially in rural areas. Additionally, I pledge to make use of my degree to explore more about advanced technology and implement it in Malaysia. I also pledge to improve myself in both knowledge and leadership skill to inspire more people in the future

YKLDP reminded me how much privilege I’ve been entrusted with and how important it is to use this privilege to improve myself as an individual, a leader and a member of society.

This program has really humbled me and showed me that I still have a lot to learn in order to deliver sustainable impact. It has also exposed me to effective leadership both at the in terms of management and on more grassroots on-the-ground levels.
