The topic of school recycling was brought up in our Honors Government class and we found a problem. The regular recycling service that was offered two years ago, was no longer provided and there was still a demand for it at Locust Grove High School. In studying government, our leaders, and how to bring about changes in one's community, our class decided that we wanted to partner with a local company to kickstart a new recycling program.

Our Goal

We knew that we as students believed that recycling was important, but what did the teachers at Locust Grove think? We surveyed teachers from four departments: social studies, English, mathematics, and career tech.

Barriers to Implementation

In our efforts of getting a recycling program here at Locust Grove, we realized that there were some barriers to implementing this change.

finding a company to provide recycling
getting teachers to recycle
getting students to recycle
paying for the recycling service
showing recycling's importance to the Locust Grove HS community

Solutions for Change

Though there are barriers, we've devised some solutions.

You were invited here today so that we could develop a partnership with your company.
In make recycling easier for our teachers, we can provide recycling boxes for them.
To make it easier for students to recycle, we plan to create various recycling locations around the school.
To pay for the recycling service, we'd hold a fundraiser.
To show the importance of recycling, we could start a recycling campaign at our school, with videos shown and recycling facts told on the announcements every morning.
